The franchise company I owned for 18 years has provided much of the pedagogical framework used in the design and layout of my courses at Marist College helping me bridge theory and application to my students in finance, management, and entrepreneurial coursework.
My dissertation and research interests are in the fields of finance, entrepreneurship, small business operations, and franchise ownership. I would be glad to share my entire dissertation with you, as it adds substance to my background and academic interests.
The courses to date have provided my students with many of the basic skills required to manage the financial, managerial, and human capital skills needed in today’s complex workforce. In 2016, I introduced a stock project in my Financial Management course to help the students make a more tangible connection of the material to the real world. I asked that each student choose two public companies and track and report their financial data and present this in a final paper at the end of the semester. Additionally, I have asked students to create Word Press blogs as a means of learning a new technology along with the actual assignments. I have videos on YouTube that are meant to be a supplement to some of my courses. I created my own website as an academic exercise to learning computer coding and have used it to teach technology classes at my local library. www.CaryResources.com
Along with my academic track at Marist, I was part of the academic advising team and worked with about 140 freshmen and sophomore students, guiding them through the scheduling processes to ensure they choose the best academic journey suited for them. Through this lens I have gained further insight into challenges of being a college student in these changing times.
In addition to the above, I currently teach Corporate Finance Principles of Management at New Paltz. I use the Connect technology from McGraw Hill to deliver some of the course content and facilitate quizzes and practice problems. I have found this to be a very productive learning tool and have received positive feedback from the students. Teaching at SUNY New Paltz has expanded my experience in working with a more diverse group of students. The class sizes are about twice that of Marist and draw from a wider demographic and geographic community.
I have three accepted papers in various academic journals which I can share with you, if needed, several others pending that are outlined on my resume. I spent 3 weeks in Florence, Italy in the summer of 2018 on a research assignment from Marist, studying the cultural differences between USA and Italy in regards to “Tipping” and the business consequences and underlying implications it has on certain industry segments and their employees.
My most recent accomplishments that will provide added value to the position and my students is the certification earned from Harvard Business School Online titled “Essentials of Entrepreneurship”. My goal is to continue with additional online classes at Harvard, those that focus in fields of finance and entrepreneurship. Additionally, I became a consultant for a Social Entrepreneurship company, GCSEN, an accelerator / incubator for new ventures located in Kingston, NY. Last March, I was given the Marist Digital Education 2018 -2019 award for the Innovative use of Technology for developing a Podcast on Personal Finances for college students. It is designed to supplement the course content and help the student learn through an optional medium. My hope is to continue expanding the project and make it available for entrepreneurial courses as well. On a local level, I host a business technology class at Marlboro Free library each month that covers a different type of technology currently used in the marketplace. Some of these include: Word Press, Excel, Power Point, Coding, Web Design, Podcast, Advanced Excel Topics, Advanced MS Office, programming with Python, etc.

I have a website that teaches many of the technology tools and shows those that I am familiar with. Additionally, I teach a business technology class every month at my local library.

I have taught Financial Management, Finance for Entrepreneurs, Corporate Finance for about 5 years at the college level and worked in the finance field during some of my first jobs out of college.
