About Elizabeth

Hello! My name is Liz, and, in total, I have over 18+ yeas of experience working with students as a tutor, a teaching assistant, and a professor.

I have a Ph.D. in art history, and, although I do tutor students in my field and related areas, I primarily work with students needing extra help in editing, reading, writing, proofreading, grammar, punctuation, and vocabulary. I have tutored students from Kindergarten to graduate school, native speakers of English and ESL/ELL students, and professionals who need help with resumes and cover letters, both on-line and in-person.

Having been on admission committees at two different universities, one of my strengths is knowing not only how to create an effective admissions portfolio, but also what colleges and universities are looking for that will help distinguish your application from the thousands of applications they receive. I am also a graduate student in education, so I have a unique perspective from a variety of educational contexts.

Writing has many purposes -- to communicate a complex idea or thought, to argue a particular point of view, or to provide the reader with important information -- and each has a different style and emphasis. It is a process as well as a skill: the more you do it, the better you get! However, it can often be difficult to know where to start, how to organize what you have when you do get started, and feel confident that your are submitting work that is the best it can possibly be, as it has been carefully proofread and edited. I am here to help!

I have to young children, who will soon turn 6 and 8, and watching and helping them grown as learners, as they both have very different talents and abilities. They remind me that every person has innate strengths and areas where they need support and help, and they are unique to each person.

Seeking help by hiring a tutor is an investment in yourself as well as your future, because although we may be working on a specific paper or project, you are learning skills that can be applied to a variety of different situations and will help you long after the assignment or application is due.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
