I am proud to say that languages have been a life long love for me. Having been raised in an Italian family where my grandma only spoke to me in her native language, I have immersed myself in other Romance languages, French and Spanish. I have taught on all levels -- middle school, high school. community college, university, and adult education programs --and continue to work with student teachers in the field.
My background includes both undergraduate and graduate degrees in French, numerous immersion stays in programs in France, organizing student trips abroad, work with New York State Teacher Certification Programs and content specialty exams. I have been in a leadership position in the New York State Association of Foreign Language Teachers for many years.
My goal is to help students understand both the language and the people who speak it. I can adjust to all needs -- remedial, travel needs, etc. -- but especially love to develop speaking proficiency. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
