I am a certified elementary education teacher with a master's degree in elementary education. I have experience working with children of all ages inside and outside the classroom. My strength is in reading, writing, phonics and spelling with elementary level children but I have also worked with high school studies on creative writing assignments, as well as college entrance essays. I believe each child has a love of learning and it is the teacher's responsibility to tap into that love through different methods of teaching. It is also important to understand each child's unique learning style and teach respectfully to that. My teaching experience is varied as I have taught in NYC in a Greek private school as well as in the suburbs teaching preschool. I currently teach preschool during the academic year and a kindergarten/first grade program in the summer. I have been a Christian education director as well for ages 4-15. I have worked with many students with English as a second/foreign language when I taught in NYC. I make learning fun particularly with younger students through learning games and activities.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I am certified in elementary education and have taught phonics through phonics games, writing, pictures, and auditory games to children ages 3-8 in my 15 years of teaching experience.
During my Master's in Education program, I took over 5 courses involving methods of teaching reading to elementary level students. These courses included Reading in the Content Area, Early Literacy Development, and Foundations of Developmental Reading among others. I have also taught the Handwriting Without Tears program and early reading skills to my preschoolers.
I have worked on spelling techniques and phonics with children in my classroom throughout the 15 years I have been teaching. I have also assisted older children with spelling while helping with college essay writing and homework assistance.
As an educational director, I helped several students with study skills and techniques to help prepare for tests. Flash cards, memory games, learning through repetition, turning lessons into songs to help memory.
Every day in the classroom, I work on vocabulary with my students by modeling inquisitiveness by modeling when and how to be inquisitive about new words. Poetry is also a wonderful way, in a less intimidating way, to introduce new words to students.
