About Anthony

I am a tutor who specializes in math tutoring. I have been tutoring individuals and groups for a few years on mathematic principles as simple as basic arthimetic to topics as advanced as differential calculus. I can help with AP and Regents test preparation and the stress that comes with it. I take great pride in seeing my students succeed and always care about the driving factors behind my students. I don't just love seeing a student do well, I also love seeing someone excited to learn and grow as an individual, and I am always willing to be the stepping stone that can bring such an individual farther than they have ever achieved.

As for my experience: I have worked as a Teacher's Aide in a special education high school. I have also worked as a test prep specialist during the summer for two years and as an independent tutor for four years. When I teach, I use several methods when it comes to mathematics: combining the use of visual aids with drawing connections between abstract concepts and real life. For more advanced topics I use a variety of supplemental websites for both practice and explanative purposes. Before attending Mercy as a transfer, I was a student at Rutgers for Computer Engineering, taking courses such as linear systems and signals and differential calculus, where I had good grades. Most importantly though, I understand the motivational struggles and conceptual blockades that come with learning math, which I experienced teaching in a special education high school.

My previous experience with tutoring has been typically positive. Even though I am a younger tutor I have a great ability to connect with my students and get them motivated to be successful with their schoolwork. I will try my hardest to show you and your son or daughter that I am an excellent fit for helping out with learning math, whatever kind of mathematics it might be! You can contact me to learn a little bit more about my teaching methods and typical curriculum when teaching a specific subject. Thank you for taking the time to read my profile!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Algebra 1

I have taken advanced math courses and taught as a teachers Aide in a special education high school called Karafin in Mt Kisco, Ny teaching topics varying from low level algebra to precalculus. I passed the Wyzant exam fully and can teach all of the various topics in algebra from the introduction of variables to polynomials and graphing of linear equations.

Algebra 2

I am well versed with advanced algebra topics such as exponential functions and quadratic equations as well as introductory trigonometry and the fundamentals of discrete math.

Calculus

I am confident in my abilities to teach differential calculus and integration based calculus. I typically start with the fundamentals of calculus, starting with limits and the formal definition of a derivative, continuing with the rules of differentiation, and eventually ending with applications of derivatives and partial derivatives, just for differential calculus. If a student is on a more advanced track we would then begin integral calculus by starting with the definition of the discrete integral. Then we would use the application of the discrete integral to come up with the definition of the continuous integral. After that we would end up discussing advanced integration techniques such as u-substitution and integration by parts. Eventually, we would discuss the most advanced topics such as arc length, series, and very low level differential equations, or multivariate calculus, all depending on what the student is preparing for or needs.

Linear Algebra

I am well versed in the methods involved in transforming a system of linear equations into an ordered matrix, RREF and dimensional analysis and how it affect the number of solutions, eigenvalues and how subtracting them from the diagonal finds the eigenvectors. I am aware of the definition of the null space and what parametric form of a non singular solution is. I am able to teach this subject by working up from basic reducing and 2x2 matrices discussing such topics until finishing with eigenvalues and eigenvectors and their applications in topics such as traffic flow and industrial supply flow.

Precalculus

Precalculus is a combination of several areas of math, specifically algebra, trigonometry, and discrete math.

I am able to discuss these topics in a way that will be able to properly prepare a student for calculus, first starting with topics such as complex numbers and exponents, moving on to topics like logarithmic functions and advanced use of trigonometric functions.

I was taught precalculus at a magnet high school in Edison, NJ.

Knowledgeable and very good at explaining concepts

Anthony helped my daughter with understanding geometry, he went over concepts thoroughly to make sure she understood it....he evaluated her skill level and will continue to schedule tutor time with him.
