I see it as my job to understand YOU, a unique learner, and help open up YOUR potential! With over 10 years of teaching under my belt, both in the USA and abroad, I tailor my lessons to your goals and learning styles. My students tell me they come away self-motivated to study, and say they have never had such rapid improvement as with me. My success speaks for itself: several of my students have gone from failing to getting A's within several months of working with me, and ALL my students...

My success speaks for itself: several of my students have gone from failing to getting A's within several months of working with me, and ALL my students have seen an improvement of their grades. My adult students tell me how much they learn and that they look forward to seeing me every week!

I strive to:
1) Assess a student’s skill base, learning styles, and advise where I feel work is needed
2) Help you accomplish YOUR goals
3) Develop an individualized learning plan. I don't believe in cookie-cutter teaching!

Also… let’s smile and laugh while we are at it :-)

Teaching areas: Music Theory, AP Music Theory, German, Spanish, ESL/ESOL, Writing/Editing, Piano, Oboe, Sight-Singing

Background: I have two degrees in music (Boston Conservatory of Music, Wichita State), have performed all over the world, and have taught both music and languages in the public schools, private tutoring, and college levels!

As an active performer, I use my experience as a professional musician to inform my students of real-world application. I am a specialist in the AP Music Theory test, and I have taught music theory and ear training at the high school and college level. Outside of theory, I am an oboist, pianist, and teach sight-singing.

Luckily, I am also a heritage speaker of German (thanks grandma!), and have taught in the public schools in the German state of Rheinland-Pfalz. I continue to teach in the US on a private and public school basis.

Spanish was also a language I started when I was a young girl and I also have taught up to the AP Spanish and college levels.

My background also includes several years as an ESL/ESOL teacher, copywriter and editor!

Knowledgeable and patient tutor

In today’s lesson we discussed how to use the shape of the mouth and lips to produce a pretty sound while blowing a steady stream of air into the instrument. I look forward to playing the oboe this week. With practice, my playing will improve!

Excellent Teacher

Mickey is a very knowledgeable and patient teacher. I am an adult learner, and Mickey has a way of teaching you at your comprehension level in a very comfortable environment through the online lesson. Mickey addressed me at my level and has not overwhelmed me at any time. Mickey is clear with her expectations and lesson instructions as well as setting our next steps before the end of the lesson. I highly recommend Mickey as your next music teacher.
