I am a certified elementary school teacher. I also have my masters in literacy. I have been working in the elementary schools in my town for 5 years now. I have had two long term subbing jobs as a teacher assistant in learning centers focusing on math and reading. I have also had a long term subbing position as a reading teacher. I am currently working in a long term position as a first grade teacher. I have had this position since January 2014.
I am well educated in the common core and with the NYS ELA and Math modules. My belief is to make learning fun, if a child is not having fun, they are not learning. I have tried just teaching to the book and my experience tells me it just does not work. You have to keep children engaged and having fun.
I believe my experience makes me very qualified to be a tutor. I have worked with children since I was 18. I started in day care centers and now I am a substitute teacher full time. Education is my passion and the more passionate someone is, the better they thrive in that area.
I also have a child of my own. Although she is only two, we work on letters, numbers and colors in the most exciting ways. I hope that you give me a chance to become your child's tutor. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
