About Peter

For over a decade, I've been preparing students in the US and in foreign countries for success in high school and college. My work includes extensive teaching and tutoring in the English components of the SAT and ACT. I show students how to understand these tests and they learn effective strategies that give them confidence to succeed. I've also worked in the development of materials for an online SAT course.

For more than half a decade, I've worked with middle school students preparing them for standardized tests such as the SHSAT, Hunter College High School test and the Catholic school admissions exam.

Recent work history includes working as the academic director of an educational and tutoring center, college counseling, and bilingual education on the middle school, high school and college levels.

Having lived and worked for 20 years in Latin America, I possess a complete knowledge of Spanish (reading, writing, speaking, listening) In addition, the experience and understanding of Latin American culture and Latino culture in the U.S. provide a cross-cultural perspective that is a benefit to many students.

I have been privileged to accompany and work extensively with students from varied national, cultural, economic, educational, language and ethnic backgrounds, supporting them to overcome challenges and succeed academically.

SAT Writing

As an SAT Writing teacher, I help students succeed by outlining the areas of grammar and language use that appear on the SAT exam. I give brief and clear explanations, practice exercises and reviews of the material. With this efficient and effective method, my students understand and confidently deal with the grammar part of the SAT exam.

With the SAT essay, I show the students how to prepare beforehand their ideas and examples for the essay. The students learn how to write a clear and effective thesis and to structure the body paragraphs. With prepared ideas and approaches and with practice in writing a 3-5 paragraph persuasive essay, the students
achieve a high score on the SAT essay.

I am very grateful to my tutor.

My tutor Peter has taught me comparative and superlative adjectives. Peter helps me a lot with my pronunciation, and he has patience with my learning. Also we are working on prepositions and possessive pronouns. I'm improving my pronunciation. I am very grateful to my tutor.
