In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
Currently, I am a teacher's assistant at a deaf school on Long Island. Additionally, I received my Bachelor's degree in Deaf Studies and spent a semester at Gallaudet University during my junior year. I have been studying American Sign Language for about 8 years and hope to continue my career where I have the opportunity to utilize my skills in this language. I am qualified to tutor American Sign Language because I have a lot of experience in the field and culture as well as fluency in the language.
