Every since I was a young girl I loved history. I was always interested in what happened in the past. While math always gave me problems history came easier for me. Starting in the 10th grade I was placed in honers leveled history courses.

I graduated from Hofstra University with a history degree, minoring in secondary education. Just after graduating I tutored for the Hofstra tutoring center for about five years. Starting in the early 90's i began to work with Syosset Homebound Tutoring. There I mostly tutored high school students.

These students were home bound due to either suspensions or an illness or an injury. I have helped students prepare for not only midterms and finals but the regents as well. Tests i have prepared consisted of multiply choice and essays. I have also written several historically based screenplays. In fact my short THE DEATH OF JAMES CONNOLLY placed in the top three of the Manhattan Short Film Festival Screenplay contest. It takes a behind the scenes look at what happened before James Connolly was executed for his involvement in the Easter Rising. I find that writing such screenplays gives me a more refined understanding of historically events.

I know there are students who don't like history. It's boring to them or they don't think they will need it once out of school. I try to show the student the importance of the subject and try to make it interesting. If I can I like to throw in little known facts about the time period or person that may not be in the history books. I like to make my students think. It's not just about memorizing dates and names Events which happened in the past have an effect on what is happening in today's world. How would the world be different if we didn't fight the Revolutionary War for instance? It's all well and good to know we signed the Declaration of Independence on July 4th 1776 but the real value is knowing and understanding how it impacted such countries France and Ireland. And I love the fact that as tutor I get the opportunity to bring that understanding to my students.

I am not here as a tutor to give answers but to guide the student. One of the most important thing I learned while at Hofstra was to think analytically. That is how I approach my tutoring. My students won't be spooned fed but will have to think about the subject before them.

I charge $50.00 a hour and require 24 hours cancellation notice. So if you need help in history please contact me and schedule a lesson. Who knows? Perhaps history will become your favorite subject.

American History,

American History

I graduated with a History degree from Hofstra Univerisity. About half of those courses concentrated on American history, a few which I took with Prof. Doulglas Brinkley, whom has commented on CNN on several occasions. I have tutored at Hofstra's tutoring program as well as with Syosset Homebound Tutoring. I find it not just important for students to learn dates and names but to analyze history. This way they have a better understanding how how history effect our country today.

Knowledgeable about history

My son seemed to connect with Margaret. This was his first lesson. Hopefully, they will continue to work well together. I have had very good tutors with Wyzant.
