Hello! I am currently a graduate student at St. John's University working on a PhD in English. I currently teach freshman level literature courses as well as physics lab and recitation at St. John's. I am trained by Kaplan and Huntington Learning Center to teach SAT/ACT prep. I have experience tutoring one-on-one, working with small groups of students, and teaching in a classroom. Past students range from kindergarten to college undergraduates. My areas of expertise are physics, math, and SAT tutoring. Through Kaplan Inc. and Kaplan Kids, I was trained to teach SAT classes and to tutor students grades K-8 in English and math. I have also tutored students for state tests, including the ELA, math assessment, social studies, and science. Topics that I have tutored recently include: pre-algebra, algebra, geometry, trigonometry, calculus I, regents physics, AP Physics, college physics, university physics, and college essay writing. In addition to time spent with me, I expect students to do work in between lessons, especially if they are preparing for a specific exam. My teaching methods are centered around helping students gain confidence in themselves as learners and helping students find the learning processes that works best for them.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I was trained by Kaplan to tutor math and English for K-8, as well as to teach SAT subjects, which includes algebra. For the past year and a half I taught physics at St. John's University, including algebra-based physics, so I have covered the material recently. I have experience private tutoring 7th and 8th grade math and algebra regents prep.

I have a bachelor's degree in physics from the University of Evansville and a master's in physics from Renselaer Polytechnic Institute.
My most recent teaching position was as an adjunct instructor at St. John's University. Courses that I taught included lab and recitation for physics I and physics II. I also taught two sections of an introduction to astronomy course.
In addition, I have experience as a physics teaching assistant and tutor as an undergraduate student at the University of Evansville and a graduate student at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.
I was trained by Kaplan to tutor math and English for K-8, and worked through the entire math curriculum for 6th, 7th, and 8th grade. I am also trained to prepare students for New York State assessment tests, which includes pre-algebra. I have experience private tutoring 7th and 8th grade math and algebra regents prep.
I currently work as a part-time tutor at a Huntington Learning Center. Most of my students are preparing for the SAT or New York State Regents. I currently work with students preparing for the Algebra and Algebra II/Trigonometry Regents. In the past five years, I have also helped students with Regents in physics, English, and Earth Science.
As a Kaplan tutor and private tutor, I have extensive experience prepping students for New York State tests, including science, math, social studies, and English. My former students range from Kindergarten to college undergraduates.Through Kaplan, I was trained to be a K-8 tutor. The program, called Kaplan Kids, focused on math and reading comprehension skills. The teaching methods used focused on filling holes in past learning experiences, and building on prior knowledge to learn new material.
