For the past decade, I have tutored friends and family in disciplines ranging from organic chemistry to the mighty MCAT. More so than teaching the bare requirements necessary to secure a desired grade, I aim to teach my students to 'think like a scientist'--something I myself strive to do every day as a MD PhD student pursuing my graduate training in the Neurosciences. I find that my comprehensive yet intimate approach to the subject matter leaves my students feeling confident and (hopefully) more interested in that particular subject.
As a surgeon-scientist in training, I would like to emphasize the importance of developing basic skills in understanding scientific literature and applying concepts in the natural sciences. These abilities are critical to students' success as medical school applicants. I am enthused by the opportunity to share this knowledge with eager students who want to better understand these subjects.

I am currently completing my PhD in neuroscience under the mentorship of Emad Eskandar, Chairman of Neurosurgery at Einstein/Montefiore (NYC). Prior to matriculating into medical school in 2016, I spent 18 months as an undergraduate in a chemistry lab at New York University under the tutelage of Alexej Jerschow, Professor of Physical Chemistry and Director of Undergraduate Chemistry Studies. In addition, I completed two years of clinical research at the Montefiore Medical Center (Bronx,NY) Department of Anesthesiology. Being involved in original, independent research has reinforced my knowledge and understanding of chemical, biological and biochemical principles. Accordingly, I am confident that I can work effectively with committed students to assist them in submitting their strongest application to medical schools.

My pre-medical coursework and MCAT preparation provided me with a solid foundation for tutoring students in the natural sciences. Instead of teaching through rote memorization, I encourage and help my students develop their scientific intuitions so that they are ready for any challenge they come across in the subject matter.

Test Preparation

MCAT

MCAT

I took the MCAT in June, 2015. I scored in the 93rd percentile overall and in the 97th, in particular, on CARS (the 'new' verbal reasoning section). Having been personally tutored myself in MCAT prep, I can provide students with the skills necessary to maximize the efficiency of their MCAT study time. The MCAT strategies that I can help students develop include quick reading and outlining of passages (which is a critical skill for test time management), identification of 'pitfall' answers and encouraging students to 'think like the test writers'. I am confident that these capabilities, in combination with a well-planned study agenda, will maximize success on test day.

Very Passionate

Chaim is just a wonderful tutor overall. He really tries to make his students understand the topic completely before moving on. He's very patient, which is a such a good trait to have since I myself, am a slow learner. But one thing I really like that stood out was his passion for the topic. He went rambled on and on about chemistry and didn't stop. I could see that he absolutely loved chemistry which inspired me to learn more. He's a very motivating tutor.

Great Tutor!

Chaim tutored me for the MCAT, more specifically the CARS section. At first I was very apprehensive, but after my first session with Chaim I am already feeling confident, motivated, and more comfortable with the material. He helped break down the subject matter with effective techniques and provided great insight to facilitate learning. He is very knowledgeable, friendly, and responds quickly to messages. Highly recommended!
