University of Minnesota (PhD)
I have a PhD in Organic Chemistry (Univ of MN) and while in graduate school ('93 - '99) I was a teaching assistant and department tutor for general/organic chemistry for 6 years. I currently ('99 to present) work in the pharmaceutical industry and throughout my career I have been informally teaching chemistry/medicinal chemistry to the bachelor's level employees. However, for a period of almost two years ('09 - '10) I hosted a formal chemistry class at my job with 6 employees in attendance.
Since I studied math and physics during my undergraduate years ('89 - '93 at Macalester College, MN) I am willing to tackle high school and potentially college level math and physics as well. Reviewing for Chemistry Regents. Explained questions and answers in an easy to understand manner. I feel well prepared for my exam.
Very helpful tutor.
Feryan is a very helpful tutor. He helped me a lot with understanding Chem II (college course). He is very patient and enjoys tutoring/teaching. I highly recommend him as a tutor.
Chemistry is a real struggle for me, but also a very important part of my curriculum. Our chem class is moving very fast, and without Feryan, I'd be completely lost. He explains things in a way that makes it as easy as possible to understand, and he's enormously helpful with homework. If you're a returning adult student like me, you'll be happy you chose him. Given his patience, I'd recommend Feryan for children as well.
Feryan is a patient and kind person and this comes across in his teaching. My son has never struggled with a subject before chemistry, and his father and I had forgotten all we had learned so long ago. Feryan saved the day! My son began getting high c's and low b's on his exams, and what he was still not understanding, Feryan covered, until he knew the material. Thank you for helping to ease our worries and especially our sons.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have a Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry from the University of Minnesota. My thesis involved a multi-step organic synthesis of a natural product. I have worked in the Pharmaceutical industry since 1999 as a synthetic organic chemist engaging in drug research and development.
