About Michelle

I am a certified Childhood Education and Special Education Teacher in NY.

After spending a summer working at a residential school for children with disabilities, I realized I had a passion for teaching. I decided to go to graduate school at NYU and get a masters degree in Childhood Education and Special Education. at NYU I student taught in many settings and graduated with honors and I was inducted into an honor society for teaching. After spending some time as a classroom teacher in the Bronx, I realized the value of the work I can do in a small group or 1 to 1 setting.

I specialized in teaching elementary students in math and reading as well as those who have learning or behavioral disabilities. This is my background and where most of my experience has been. That being said I am also in the processes of being certified in the Orton-Gillingham Multisensory approach to teaching reading which has been proven successful with students of all ages that are dyslexic or have trouble with phonics and reading. This methodology takes the basic foundations of reading and breaks them into a strict schedule of introductions based on frequency in our language.

My Orton-Gillingham Tutoring is different from typical tutoring as it follows its own lesson format and curriculum and would be either separate from or in addition to helping with what a child is learning in their classroom. I try to keep Orton-Gillingham sessions to at least twice a week and I am willing to offer package deals.

I still teach in the classroom but I am flexible with both my time and the distance I would be willing to travel I only ask that if you choose to cancel you give me 2 hours notice.

I look forward to hearing from you and wish you luck !

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
