I have been a "tutor" all my life - with friends in high school, with my daughter who is now a sophomore at Tufts University, and with the students of varying ages with whom I work now. I was born In Vienna, Austria and moved to New York as a child. I attended Riverdale Country School, Princeton University, and Columbia Law School. I practiced entertainment law for many years and then parented my daughter full-time. For the past ten years I have tutored young people as well as adults in writing and reading. I work with private school students, as well as those in less privileged school districts, finding it particularly rewarding to tap into the hidden potential of those for whom learning is challenging.
My areas of expertise are reading and writing. I understand the joys and advantages that being a confident reader with a strong vocabulary provide. Most of all, however, I focus on the absolute necessity of being a good writer. I joke/brag about being able to produce a profound essay on even the silliest, most mundane topic - whether it be a donut, a paper cup or a rap song. It is this kind of writing confidence that successful students need in class, on standardized tests, in admissions application essays and in their future professional lives. Finally, I derive the greatest pleasure from bonding with people on a one-on-one basis. Here insecurities disappear, a sense of humor works wonders, and confidence grows - often for the first time. My hope is that my students leave each session not only with learning skills but also a smile.
