Parson's School of Design (Fine Arts)
Maryland Institute College of Art (Master's)
My love of teaching comes from my family, many of whom were teachers and principles in the Pennsylvania school districts. My love of the Arts comes from these same family members who spent their lives involved in painting, sculpture, theatre, classical voice, poetry and prose. Education and the Arts has been passed down to me by loving example, and I follow in their rich footsteps.
I graduated from Parson's School of Design at the top of my class with a BFA, and finished my studies with an MFA from The Maryland Institute College of Art, where I was awarded the Rinehart Award for sculpture. I have also attended class at The New School in NYC in which I studied figural sculpture and The Art Student's League in Midtown Manhattan where I studied portrait painting.
I specialize in gesture drawing, color theory, oil and acrylic painting, mixed media sculpture and digital art using Photoshop elements. I place a high emphasis on creative exploration and combining mediums to maximize visual language. Whether you are a beginner with a desire to learn, or polishing a portfolio for college entry, I can create a course study to meet your needs.
I tutor in my studio, which is located in a large artist's loft building in downtown Kingston. The atmosphere is lively and professional and offers a large well lit professional space that allows for many types of art making. Depending on the desired course study, I can travel to you, if the proper space is available in which to work.
Although I do have a 24 hour cancellation policy, I am flexible and can offer make-up sessions.
I look forward to helping you discover the joy of artistic expression. My love of teaching comes from my family, many of whom were teachers and principles in the Pennsylvania school districts. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
