I am a New York State certified elementary and middle school teacher, specifically Pre-K through 6th grade. My decision to become a teacher was the result of reviewing my favorite aspects of previous jobs, and I found repeatedly that teaching was what I liked best in each position. I have always loved to learn, which I feel is an ongoing process throughout life.
My specific love is that of Science. I taught 6th Grade Science for 13 years in upstate New York. The satisfaction I got out of teaching was beyond my greatest expectations! There is nothing like seeing "the lightbulb go on" when explaining a difficult concept for a student. I love to see the satisfaction of a student grasping something that had been previously out of reach for that student. The student not only gains an understanding of a concept, but it also gives that student more confidence in the subject area. This is so important, and half the battle, when a student is struggling. I love to see frustration replaced with a sense of accomplishment.
In addition to classroom experience, I also have elementary school tutoring experience, as well as experience with children outside of the classroom. I have worked as a summer camp counselor for several summers, and as a certified downhill ski instructor as well. I look forward to working with students in all classroom subject areas in both elementary and middle school.
New York State 6th Grade Science Curriculum
I encourage students who are having difficulty in elementary or middle school subject areas, particularly science, to contact me for help with any problems in all subject areas. One on one interactions can help relieve frustration, while at the same time giving the student more confidence. Because there are all kinds of learning styles, a tutor can often explain a concept in a different way than the classroom teacher. In this way tutoring is designed to fit the specific needs of a specific student. I am a New York State certified elementary and middle school teacher, specifically Pre-K through 6th grade. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
