Science and math can be very intimidating for many, many people. Respecting the varied learning styles is key in bridging the gap between an abstract concept and the experience of the student. This takes patient, experienced guidance.
If you would like a highly effective, personable, patient, person with an ability to explain abstract material in a clear way then perhaps I can help. I have 7+ years in NYC and Long Island high school, junior high school, and college settings preparing students for state physics, chemistry, and mathematics exams. In addition, I have several years of experience in the corporate world as an actuarial analyst which gives me yet another angle to share with students on how math can help in business as well as in science
I have a Bachelor of Science in Physics from Binghamton University and am pursuing a Master of Science in Secondary Education at Queens College (two classes away). I began tutoring AP Calculus and Chemistry as a student in high school where I received very positive feedback from fellow students who encouraged me to pursue a career in teaching. In college, I was a physics laboratory teaching assistant and also was a member of the Junior Upstate Mentoring Program (JUMP Nation) where I provided encouragement / inspiration to NYC at-risk youth by doing some "Fun in Physics" demonstrations.
If you are interested I look forward to sharing more of my experience with you and help you succeed at your math, physics, and / or chemistry challenges. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
