About Marshall

Students often internally rebel because they don't recognize the relevance of the courses they are taking. That often leads to disruption and failure. They also resent being forced to study what they don't like. I try to motivate students by not only teaching the basics, but also, in a respectful way, by showing how such learning will directly benefit them.

My formal teaching experience was as a substitute for two local school districts. During that tenure I sometimes was called upon to actually teach subjects of which I have extensive expertise, i.e. digital art, photography, English grammar and writing, U.S. History and government.

I graduated from the University of Houston in 1968 with a degree in Journalism. My professional career was with the Middlesex County, NJ Board of Social Services, where I served as a supervisor (Senior Investigator) in the
Fraud Investigations Department. I retired in 1997.

Aside from conventional photography I specialize in the 3-dimensional variety and have produced a number of commercial software products containing mostly scenic renderings in 3-D.

I enjoy inspiring youth by helping them develop a yen for creativity.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

English

I have a BA degree from the University of Houston (Texas), where I majored in Communications. I was an award-winning newspaper editor, and continue to write numerous editorial pieces for local newspapers.
