Queensborough Community College (Nursing)
As a young girl, I loved visiting the classroom of my grandmother, a beloved teacher who showed me that every student has great potential. My heart for being in the classroom and children was instilled much earlier by my grandmother. I enjoy reading and writing so much. I always love discovering new books to read and writing my own short stories. I am working on my B.S. in Nursing because I love to help others. Unlike many teachers and tutors, I have experience not only teaching students from a host of different K-12 schools (public and home), but I have also taught within several schools as well through volunteer work. I am super passionate about what I do. On my free time I enjoy doing many things that involve traveling and trying new experiences. The thing that I love so much about tutoring is the look on student's faces when they finally understand something. It just warms my heart that I helped them too understand what is going on.
I've been providing my personalized instruction in math, music, and test prep. since 2013. My students represent a diverse cross section of New York City, hailing from throughout Brooklyn, Manhattan, and Queens. I have worked with students between the ages of 4 and 64. I have been hired to prepare students for specific tests such as the SATs, SHSATs, GREs, and Regents Exams. I have been hired to make math more fun or exciting for students who dislike math. I have been hired to challenge students who love math that were not challenged by their schools. I am an artist, and many of my students or their parents come from artistic backgrounds.
It always warms my heart to help students on their papers and show them new ways to spice up their writing. I enjoy reading so much I always can recommend a good book for my students.
I encourage students to contact me for tutoring! I am always available with flexible hours to suit your schedule and your education and success is truly important to me. Thank you! In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I am qualified to tutor Algebra 1 for many reasons. I can help show students quick and effective yet simple ways to get to the answer of problems. I will always try my best to help them understand the material.
I have tutored for remedial math at City College where there were all the topics from Algebra 2.
I have tutored at the Gateway Academic Center where I had the pleasure to tutor students as young as 4 years old to 64 year old. I have also done many volunteering at my old elementary school where I help young students with the basics that provide a strong foundation to their education.
I have done volunteer work in correcting students essays. I help them read their paper out loud so they can hear their grammatical mistakes. I have found this technique very effective.
Vocabulary is an important topic which helps students make their writing sound more sophisticated. I have helped many peers and also many students spice up their vocabulary with methods such as flash cards.
I have helped many students with their writing. There is a certain format for certain essays and I have shown students the right way of doing things. For example in an argumentative essay you need to take a side and then have supporting paragraphs to back up your statements.
