Queens College-CUNY (Biology)
I am a senior enrolled in Biology at Queens College. My goal after earning my Bachelor's degree is to apply for a PhD program in cellular biology. For the past 6 years I have gained experience working in the sciences as a researcher in various labs. I first started as a high school student working at Barnard College in the department of Environmental Biology studying microbial genes responsible for the reduction of arsenic. I currently work in a cell biology lab at Queens College studying how the Dengue virus protects from cell death in humans in order to enhance viral replication.
I enjoy educating others. I consider it my responsibility to contribute to someone else's education, and I feel as though I'm leaving my footprint in the minds of young people. I have a year of experience tutoring students from grades K-12. I have tutored in math, science, English, writing and social studies. I first examine the students to diagnose the areas in which they need the most help and perhaps figure out why they're lacking in that area. Then I coordinate each prepared lesson with topics they need help in. 100% of my students show progress by the end of the tutoring period.
Aside from academics, I also enjoy art. I've been drawing for about 4 years. My drawings encourages me to see and appreciate things for what they are because I am a realistic artist. To me, it's an extension of math and science than art, but it's a different medium of expression, and I love it very much.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
