Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute
Hello! I'm a 4th year engineering student at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, pursuing a dual degree in Electrical Engineering and Biomedical Engineering, with a minor in Psychology.
I've been a tutor for 5 years, and have assisted high school and college students. Subjects in math that I've tutored in range from basic Algebra to advanced Calculus. Also, I have worked extensively in prep for math on the Regents, SAT, and AP tests. I've tutored a variety of student types, ranging from those who want an A to those who just want to pass. I'm enthusiastic about the subjects I teach and I have a flexible schedule.
My Teaching Style:
I've found that the best way to teach math efficiently is to step into my student's shoes and see the problem as he or she does. By asking the student to work me through the problem, I can see exactly where confusion arises, as well as how to improve the student's analysis of the problem. This allows me to know exactly how to teach my students how to solve effectively and with confidence.
For the topics that the student has not learned yet, I first walk through the steps needed to solve it, and make sure he or she understands the reasoning behind each step. Once the student has sufficiently grasped how to handle the problems he or she needed help with, I have practice problems that the student can do for the next session. Also, if there are a shortcuts to getting the solution, I will show it to the student so that they can quickly work through exams.
For students looking to prepare for the SAT, I have strategies and tricks that some companies charge a good deal to teach 1-on-1. Whether you're a slow writer, have difficulty with the reading comprehension portion, or don't know how to tackle the more difficult math problems, I'll help you learn and strategize according to your own style to optimize your score.
Outside of the Sessions:
I'm very accessible outside of tutoring sessions. My students should feel free to contact me anytime by email as well as phone and text message regarding any questions or concerns. I believe a friendly relationship between student and teacher is the healthiest for a learning environment, as I've found it helps them grasp the subject quickly and with more enjoyment than when in the classroom.
My related coursework from undergraduate school:
- Calculus II (equivalent of AP Calculus BC)
- Multivariable Calculus and Matrix Algebra
- Differential Equations and Boundary Value Problems
My standardized test results:
SAT Overall - 2200
SAT Math - 800
SAT II Math II - 800
AP Statistics - 4
AP Calculus AB - 5 Hello! I'm a 4th year engineering student at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, pursuing a dual degree in Electrical Engineering and Biomedical Engineering, with a minor in Psychology.

Chris C. was patient and his feedback was helpful. My son felt comfortable with him and he was helpful in helping him work through the problems and gaining a better understanding.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I began tutoring this subject while in high school, to my peers. As an engineering student I have a deep understanding of the topic, and I'm a general math enthusiast!
I was an A student at Calculus in both high school and college, and have tutored my peers throughout my own education.
Having tried SAT prep classes while preparing for the exam, I'm very familiar with what is taught during those advertised sessions. I'm familiar with the tips and tricks companies charge a good deal to teach, which are the test taking strategies I developed myself as a student. I know how to help my students tailor their skills to the strategy best for them, and become most effective come test day. As an engineering student I have a deep understanding of the topic, and I'm a general math enthusiast!
My students feel prepared and practiced when they enter the room.
While this section doesn't have a rubric as clear-cut as the others, my students know what it takes to get a good mark.
