Physics PhD from Cornell University with 10+ years experience teaching college physics/math. Tutored physics 1/2, calculus, and differential equations in undergrad and taught classical physics and electromagnetism as a grad student. Classical/electromagnetism rely heavily on algebra, geometry, trigonometry, calculus, and differential equations.

I love helping students learn and seeing the moment when hard work pays off and things click. I pride myself on my patience and ability to break down complex concepts into simple digestible pieces. I never simply give a student the answer but instead help them develop a deeper understanding so they can succeed in the future without my help.

I am a firm believer in famous physicist Richard Feynman's stance that if one can't explain things in simple terms they don't fully understand it. This is the standard I hold for myself and the philosophy which guides my approach to teaching. This has shown to be a successful approach for my students.

How does a lesson work?
- Prior to the lesson I will go through the problems you would like to work on.
- I will compose a document which summarizes the main concepts and solutions.
- I will present the big picture ideas to provide a solid conceptual foundation.
- We will go through the problems together prior to looking at my own solutions.
- I will push you to provide your own reasoning and approach to each problem.
- I will make sure to highlight sticking points and clarify intuition.
- We will double check your work with the solutions I completed during prep.
- You will receive a pdf of our session notes for your reference.

I have used Mathematica to help in my research for 10+ years. As an undergraduate I studied the effect of different types of laser pulses on Bose-Einstein condensates and used Mathematica to solve an optimization problem essential to this research. This was published in Physics Review A.

Great tutor

He is good at catching mistakes in your work and takes the time to ensure the problems are solved accurately.

Knowledgeable and Patient

Brandon and I began working together around 6 months ago and he has been a transformative tutor. He has helped me in my Honors physics class and Calculus. I have been absent for weeks at a time due to other commitments and in a 1 hour tutoring session he has been able to teach me 2 weeks worth of material. Brandon also comes very prepared to tutoring sessions and has everything ready. I haven't gotten below an A on any exam in either class and can confidently recommend Brandon as a tutor in a wide variety of subjects.

Explains material well

We went over capacitors and electric potential, and Brandon helped me gain a much better understanding of these concepts. He goes step by step through each problem, making sure I understand why I need to go through each step and which formulas are necessary. Highly recommend.

Patient, goes at your own pace, and explains details throughly

Brandon helped me understand circuits better and we went over other key physics concepts that he broadened my understanding of. I enjoy his patience and his willing to explore a concept deeper to help me understand something that didn't stick with me the first time around.

Excellent tutor! Very knowledgeable and helpful.

Brandon broke down the problems in simple terms, step by step, which allowed me to see the big picture and how to arrive at the solution. He was also patient and slowed down when I needed him to do so. I would highly recommend Brandon as a tutor!

Easy to learn from and great communicator

He helped boil down really tough physics II topics into the key steps and gave me tips and tricks to remember. It was incredibly helpful to have someone that knows so much about the topic work with me. I feel like I learned more in this hour than in a week's worth of class. He also works out problems in advance so we can make the most of our time. I love the way he presents the information. Totally worth it!!

Adapts to learning style

I enjoyed my session with Brandon and he really helped me understand my Lab. Things were clicking and he helped me in understanding while letting me try out the problems on my own and correcting where I made errors!

Knowledgeable & easy to work with.

My daughter needed help in understanding angular velocity and angular rotation. Brandon was able to resolve the confusion quickly and utilized the rest of the session to implement what she learned. This is our first time using wyzant.com and it was well worth it. Thank you Brandon for such a pleasant and fruitful experience and we look forward to working with you in the future.
