Currently earning a Performance Studies Certificate in Contemporary Classical Music from Boston Conservatory under Rhonda Rider, David performs with the contemporary ensemble there, as well as freelance performing in the greater Boston area. David has attended many summer festivals, including Aria Academy, Chautauqua Institution, Castleman Quartet Program, Kinhaven Young Artists Seminar, Brevard Music Center, Wintergreen Summer Music Academy, Interlochen Summer Arts Academy, Apple Hill, and Music Mountain. David is also an active composer and performer of contemporary music.

David has previously taught both as a private instructor, through music schools in the central NY area and at Ithaca College. As a cello and piano instructor, he is focused on providing a nurturing and exploratory space for students to find their passion with their instrument. Early lessons focus on approaching the instrument in a relaxed a freeing way, finding a physical setup that will enable the student to have the most flexibility in performance. Beginning cello students typically use Suzuki method books, and Faber for beginning piano, but the curriculum is frequently adjusted based on the student’s interests and goals.

Patient tutor

David helped me off to a reasonable start considering I had no experience at all with cello or western classical. I’m sure the classes will become smoother as the rapport improves. Overall, I enjoyed my first lesson and hope to continue with David.

Experienced and great tutor

I am very happy we found David to work with our son. David is very knowledgeable; even though our class was remote, he could tell us what adjustment was needed for our son's cello. I am happy he is teaching our son how to read music too, something he was not learning yet at his school orchestra. We will continue working with David, and look forward to seeing progress. I highly recommend him!

Very clear, specific instruction

My 10 year old has been working with David all summer. I wasn’t sure how digital lessons would go, but David is very experienced with the format and a skilled cellist himself; he does a great job giving clear, specific instructions over Zoom. I don’t love digital learning, especially after doing it during the pandemic for so long, but David is really good at it and I am not sure my sons growth would be any different if they were actually in the same room? His feedback on techniques, etc, is very clear. And the digital format is sure convenient! We hope to keep lessons going with him this fall.

Insightful Tutor

David listens, watches, and gives actionable feedback. The quality of the instruction is excellent. I know that as long as I apply myself with David's guidance my cello playing will improve and grow.
