About Michelle

Hello, my name is Michelle, and I went to school at Ithaca College, and State University of New York at Cortland. I have my Bachelor's in Health and Physical Education, and my Master's in Special Education. I was a Resource Room teacher grades K-8 in Arizona for the past two years. I have also been a tutor since July 2015 both online and in person, and I love it!

I have tutored health and physical education previously online, and all subjects in person. I enjoy tutoring health education because it was my favorite subject to learn about in High School and college, and I used to teach health education in the classroom setting. I also enjoy teaching math and test prep, and have seen my student's grades go up this past academic year.

I was a resource room teacher for two years focusing heavily on math. I have brought students who were more than one grade level below, up to almost grade level. I provide students with multiple resources to help them, such as flashcards and multiplication charts. I have a lot of patience, and know multiple ways to explain and teach concepts that make it easier for students to understand.

As a resource room teacher, I focused more than half my day on reading and writing. I am very patient, and helped my students to improve their reading fluency and comprehension over the past two years. My student's have made leaps in their curriculum, and jumped up multiple grade levels when they were below.

I helped a plethora of students the past two years with organization. Most of my students were transitioning to high school, and I helped them with using their daily planner/agenda books to organize their assignments. By color coding assignments or using tabs in binders, students were able to easily identify what work they had to complete and where it was in their binders, and have increased their grades in their general education classes because of the study skills we used in my classroom.

I was a Physical and Health Education teacher, and was also my college's nutrition club president. I have a passion for health education, and encourage my students to make healthy choices and stay active. I am very energetic and set a positive role model for my students.

I am a very patient and energetic tutor with a passion for helping students succeed! I look forward to the chance to work with you this summer and/or academic school year! Please don't hesitate to contact me, as I am very prompt with my responses. I look forward to hearing from you!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Elementary (K-6th)

I was a resource room teacher grades K-8 for the past two years. I taught the skills of reading, writing, and math in an elementary school setting. As a resource room teacher, I have a lot of patience, and use multiple ways of teaching the content so that students with all different types of learning styles are able to understand the content.

Additionally, I tutored students at the elementary level after school in the same subject areas in a 1:1 setting. I engage my students so they don't lose interest in the subject matter, and give them practice problems that are relevant to their interests, such as using siblings name and animals in the problem.

Elementary Math

I have tutored students in a 1:1 setting in person for elementary math, and was a resource room teacher the past two years grades K-8.

English

I am a certified Special Education teacher K-12, and have taught English the past two years in a resource room setting, and a 1:1 setting with in person and online tutoring.

Fitness

I am a certified Health and Physical Education teacher, and have taught both subjects grade K-12. I was the president of my college's Nutrition club, and have worked at a Fitness Camp for 2 summers as a health and basketball coach. I have a strong passion for health and fitness.

Physical Science

I have been teaching and tutoring junior high students in science, math, and reading for the past two years in a classroom setting, and also have been tutoring in a 1:1 setting.

Reading

I am a certified K-12 special education teacher, and have tutored students both online and in person in the content area of reading comprehension and fluency. For the past two years, my students who were 2-3 grade levels below have moved up to slightly below grade level while in my class.

Special Needs

I was a resource room teacher grades K-8 for the past two years. I taught the skills of reading, writing, and math in an elementary school setting to multiple children with different special needs. As a resource room teacher, I have a lot of patience, and use multiple ways of teaching the content so that students with all different types of learning styles are able to understand the content.

Additionally, I tutored students with special needs at the elementary level after school in the same subject areas in a 1:1 setting. I engage my students so they don't lose interest in the subject matter, and give them practice problems that are relevant to their interests, such as using siblings name and animals in the problem.

Spelling

In my classroom, I focused primarily on the schools of reading and writing. Spelling and vocabulary were also very important, and my students have shown great success in those areas.

Study Skills

I am a qualified tutor for study skills, because for the last 2 years I was a resource room teacher grades K-8. I focused a lot on helping my students with organizational skills to help them to better succeed in their general education classes. I helped organize their binders by using tabs and color coding. Also, I helped students use their agenda books, so that they knew which homework assignments they had to complete each night. Additionally, I helped with test prep, and gave my students a variety of ways to study that would help students who all had different learning styles. I helped students make flashcards, and highlight important facts, and taught them how to annotate.

Additionally, I worked as a tutor with a junior high student in a 1:1 setting and also helped with organization of all subjects, and with skills to study for upcoming exams. We made flashcards of important terms that would come up on the test, and organized his binder so that he could find important notes from each subject to study for the test. I have my Bachelor's in Health and Physical Education, and my Master's in Special Education.

Writing

I have a Master's in special education, and have taken courses at the graduate school level. I have wrote and edited papers of that level, and am proficient in vocabulary, grammar, and spelling.
