Hello! My name is Jeff. I'm a graduate student from Cornell University. I study Bio-engineering and am currently working on a NASA funded research project that aims to prepare humans for missions to Mars in the next decade.

Teaching has always been a passion of mine. In addition to being a TA for several classes at Cornell, I also have a lot of experience working with younger students at local middle and high schools. I was homeschooled by my parents and was taught first hand how important the core basics are to helping you succeed in higher level education. One of the most rewarding things I find about teaching it helping a student reach that "Aha" moment... not because I told them, but because they discovered it themselves.

My goal as a teacher to help a student improve skills right from their classes and studies by adding a real life dimension. This helps add value to learning that adds excitement because a student now has a sense of purpose and reason to be learning - now, they're engaged in learning.

As an Engineer, Geometry is a pinnacle skill. I apply it every day in my studies and research at Cornell whether I'm building a tools for astronauts or studying the structures of polymers on a molecular level. Being an engineer where I utilize this skills daily, allows me to be uniquely qualified to teach the concepts of Geometry.

You'd be surprised how important it is to be a great writer when you're an Engineer. If you think about it, if you have a great idea but can't communicate it well through writing a proposal or to find resources, you can't really do anything with that idea. That's why good writing - by that I mean writing that is grammatically correct and has cohesive flow of thought - is crucial skill I've developed.

Technical writing as an engineer takes much of the writing I do as a whole. The strongest portion of my SATs, I scored an 800 and was actually a former an English Major. I learned many of techniques whether it's creative writing for a short story or conveying a message through nonfiction recount of history. This rather diverse perspective on writing helps qualify me as an English tutor, even though I am an engineer.

Piano is more of a hobby for me than before. However, my background in music includes an extensive repertoire and I have performed on stages including Carnegie Hall, the Kennedy Center, Lincoln Center, the White House among other venues. I started playing since I was 5 years old so I have a perspective on the pitfalls that can arise with learning to play the piano and some ways to work around it. Music is a fantastic way to destress and I'd would love to teach how to play the piano, especially when you're just getting started.

I'm very excited to potentially be working with you and your student. Please feel free to reach out to me with questions! I look forward to hearing from you. :)

The ACT English section was like the SAT writing - my best section on the ACT. The trick is to anticipate the grammar rules that appear on this section - it's a standardized test after all, so it's completely possible to foresee the answers, just by reading the questions. Reach out to me if you have any questions - I'd love to help!
SAT Writing,

SAT Writing

The SAT Writing section in particular was my best - nailing it depends on knowing the select rules that CollegeBoard chooses from and using that foresight to anticipate what answer they're looking for. My mantra with the SAT is to focus on using your strengths, bolster your weak points and fine tune your skills to hit your target score. Let me work with you to tackle this section and hit the best score you can!

Biology

I love Biology! After spending my high school studying Bio, I spent my college years on projects teams like iGEM, working in research labs at Cornell University and interning in the industry, including the Army Research Lab. I owe my experiences to having a strong background in Biology almost 10 years ago and tutoring is my to give back. Reach out to me if you have HW or projects you're working on or tests you want to prep for!
SAT Math,

SAT Math

Standardized tests do not reflect a student's strength, creativity or potential - they a test that tests how well you can take a test. As a tutor, helping you surmount this obstacle is my motivation to NOT allow a number get in the way of your goals in your academic career and beyond. My mantra with SAT Math Prep is to focus on using your strengths, bolster your weak points and fine tune your skills to hit your target score.

ACT Math

As an Engineer, math has become second nature. It didn't come easy for me. Neither did the math prep for the ACT. Throughout my high school and college years, going through Algebra, Goemetry, Pre-Calc and Calculus, I had to work harder than most to get the material...so I get it when things get tough and don't make sense. Reach out to me if you need help taking those basic math skills to tackle the ACT math section - I'd love to help!

Knows his stuff

Jeff worked with my daughter to get caught up after missing an extended period of school. He really knows his stuff and is great at keeping her focused. Jeff works with a great sense of humor and my daughter actually looks forward to more sessions with him.

Great SAT Tutor

I met with Jeff twice to prepare for retaking the SAT. Jeff's ability to quickly tailor to my learning style and abilities helped me more than an entire SAT prep course. Working with Jeff I develop my SAT test taking strategy and increased my confidence. My score went up by 100 points! I can't imagine a tutor who I could speak higher of... he's also just a great guy to be around.
