I am a native Japanese speaker, born and raised in Japan. I came to the U.S. to attend a university, and I have worked for a couple of U.S companies before I came to work for Cornell University as a staff member. I have lived in both Japan and the U.S. throughout my adult life, and as a tutor, I've enjoyed being like a bridge between the two countries to help people learn the language and the culture. I also have done translation and simultaneous interpreting work for non-profit organizations.
My tutoring sessions are usually held on the Cornell University campus and at a coffee shop in Collegetown or in the downtown Ithaca area. My services include: language lessons taught by a native Japanese speaker who is proficient in reading and writing in Japanese; school work supplement for high school- and college-level courses; and cultural and travel preparations. Please note that the students are responsible for providing their own materials. (Click on the Resources tab above and look for my blog, titled "Good Japanese Books" for the list of my suggested books.)
I look forward to hearing from you if you are interested or have any questions. Thank you.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
