About Taylor

As a teacher, my goal is to motivate my students to realize their inner strengths and abilities and discover what truly inspires them. By creating a positive environment and providing a meaningful opportunity for learning, my students will develop the skills to reach their full potential.

I am certified in Elementary and Special Education, birth through grade six, and anticipate receiving my extension certificate in TESOL and ABA. I have several years of teaching experience and am currently a special education TA for the Glen Head School District, working in a support role within their school. I previously taught in Forest Hills the 2015-2016 school year as a special education teacher for grades k-2.

While completing my education, one of my professors once said that above all a teacher must always remember that he or she is teaching a child, not a subject. These words became the basis of my educational philosophy, and as I began to teach, I realized more and more the profound truth of this statement. Recognizing each child as a unique individual with their own set of talents and challenges, I have developed the ability to identify each student’s individual learning style and create activities to support each type of learner. I continually strive to vary my students’ learning experiences and differentiate to the best of my ability, approaching teaching with flexibility and assessing the effectiveness of my methods.

I have experience with:
ElA- Ready Gen, TC, reading and writing workshop
Math- GoMath, Envision, modules, Math Focus

I have experience working with students at the elementary level. I am willing to tutor in any subject. I have experience tutoring, subbing and teaching in grades k-5.

I am certified in special ed k-6. I taught last year in a self contained k-2 classroom. I have also taught in Huntington for the summer school program in a life skills ABA classroom of students k-3. I am going back to school next semester for my ABA certification.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Autism

I have 4 years of experience working with students with autism. I taught a summer school program in Huntington for students k-3rd grade. It was a life skills class with 7 nonverbal students on the spectrum that was taught using the ABA and discrete trial approach. I also taught students with autism in a self-contained k-2 class the 2016-2017 school year. I created IEP's and goals to improve social and academic skills. I am currently in a 2nd and 3rd grade inclusion class. Two of my students are on the Autism Spectrum. I have implemented and created behavior intervention plans and reward systems to encourage positive behavior.

Common Core

I have been implementing and teaching Common Core lessons for the past 4 years. I was required to teach according to the kindergarten, 1st, and 2nd grade Common Core Standards the 2015-2016 school year. All of my bulletin boards portrayed student work, along with the standards aligned with each assignment.

Elementary (K-6th)

I have been teaching in an elementary school for the past 4 years. I taught in a k-2 bridge class last year. I am currently working in a 2nd and 3rd grade inclusion classroom. I have tutored elementary aged students in reading and math.

Handwriting

I have experience teaching the Fundations program. I am currently teaching cursive in 3rd grade. I have taught handwriting in a preschool and kindergarten classroom by modeling how to hold a pencil and how to form uppercase and lower case letters.

Phonics

I have experience with Fundations in grades k-3. I have taught preschool and kindergarten students how to read and write. I am certified in Elementary and Special Education.

Special Needs

I am a certified Special Ed teacher for grades birth-6th. Last year I taught in a self-contained k-2 classroom. I was responsible for following the Common Core Standards, writing IEPS, BIP and classroom management. I have also taught in a life skills classroom for students in grades k-3. I have experience with ABA and discrete trials. I am currently working in an inclusion 2nd and 3rd grade classroom. I have differentiated all of my lessons to meet the needs of the students in front of me. I held annual review meetings with the CSE team and created goals for my students to strive for. I have a passion for Special Ed and love the field I am in.

Help for Reading

Very patient and brings extra material to teach. My Daughter started to read faster after 2 lessons and she only sees her once a week. It's a pleasure to have her teach my daughter.
