After teaching Latin in the South Huntington public school system for over thirty years, I spent many years teaching Literature courses at Iona College, and then Education courses in the graduate school of Dowling College on Long Island. I then accepted a position as Latin teacher at the Academy of St. Joseph in Brentwood, where I created a program which thrived until, sadly, the school closed its doors two years ago. I have taught and tutored Latin to a range of students--from grades seven through twelve, to some struggling to pass to others wanting to be prepared for elite college programs. For my pleasure, I read ancient Latin literature on a daily basis, and take great pleasure in seeing my "Latin scholars" succeed, not only in their Latin classes, but in all their educational endeavors.

James is such a wonderfully patient tutor. His kindness helps to soften the difficulty of Latin. He is also very flexible and easy to schedule with! Thank you, with continued help, I pray my daughter will excel!
James is very patient and a highly qualified tutor. We have had only one lesson with him so far, but he was very helpful, did a thorough evaluation of my son's strengths and weaknesses, and designed a tutoring program to fit around our schedule. I highly recommend him.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
