About Robert

Hello! My name is Robert and I am a senior Biomedical Engineering major at Stony Brook University. In addition to being a member of the Honors College, I am an Engineering Scholar for Medicine, an 8-year guaranteed BE/MD program from which I will graduate the Stony Brook University School of Medicine in 2021. I have been tutoring students since sophomore year of high school in a variety of math and science topics, especially New York State Regents, SAT/ACT level subjects, Organic Chemistry, General Chemistry, Biochemistry, and the MCAT exam for medical school admissions.

During my college years, I have been a tutor with the Academic Success and Tutoring Center on campus, which allows qualified students to tutor individuals struggling in a variety of common subjects such as Chemistry, Cell Biology, Physiology, and Calculus 1-3, including Differential Equations. Since the Fall of 2014, I have transitioned my tutoring to the Goldstein Family Student-Athlete Development Center, where I help support our Division 1 athletes both on and off the field. The satisfaction I get from seeing my students gain a new understanding of a difficult subject and feeling a sense of achievement after reaching new performance marks keeps me coming back to tutor year after year, and Wyzant is the perfect platform for me to reach out to even more students near me! Feel free to contact me to set up a session or ask any questions!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Differential Equations

I completed our school's Applied Mathematics and Statistics Calculus course sequence after placing out of Calculus 1 with a 5 on my AP Calculus AB exam. In addition to earning an A in my differential equations course, I tutor this subject to my student athletes, and these students have seen a noticeable improvement in their test scores after my assistance. I still have all of my notes from when I took this course, including detailed solving strategies for a variety of differential equations problems.

MCAT

I am a Biomedical Engineering major at Stony Brook University in the Honors College and Engineering Scholars for Medicine combined BE/MD Program and recently took my MCAT examination. After many months of practice and reviewing my notes and concepts from General and Organic Chemistry, Physiology, Cell Biology, Biochemistry, Psychology, and other courses, I took my examination in January of 2016. I was happy to have achieved a 514, 92nd percentile overall. Additionally, I achieved the 99th percentile on the Chemistry and Physics section (131) and 87th percentile on the Biology/Biochemistry section (129). My scores were definitely reflective of my study time and ability to understand these high level science concepts.

Microsoft Excel

I have been using Microsoft Excel for over 10 years, including experience graphing a variety of scientific and mathematical data sets of thousands of data points. As a Biomedical Engineering major, I have had to use Excel for a variety of purposes, and I am extremely comfortable in working with and teaching data manipulation using this software. From mathematical functions to graphical analysis, teaching Excel is something that I have done for a long time now and would love to pass onto my tutees on WyzAnt.

Organic Chemistry

After taking AP Chemistry during senior year of high school, I was accepted to Stony Brook's new three semester Molecular Science sequence, featuring a condensed Honors General Chemistry course and two semesters of Honors Organic Chemistry. I earned A's throughout this entire sequence (the highest grade possible at Stony Brook). Additionally, I am the only Organic Chemistry tutor for the Student-Athlete Development Center, where I have helped my students excel in the very competitive and intense Organic Chemistry course sequence offered at Stony Brook, which attracts over 1000 students each semester (filling a 560 seat classroom twice each teaching day).

Regents

My HS degree was a New York State Regents Diploma with Advanced Designation based on my scoring achievements throughout high school and my last year of middle school. I achieved a 96 or greater on all of my Regents exams, including Global History, US History, Algebra, Geometry, Algebra II and Trigonometry. I also got a 99 on my Earth Science and Physics exams, and a 100 on my Biology Regents.

Patient, knowledgeable, reliable, accessible and responsive

Robert taught my daughter the cross over rule, naming of compounds, and how to work with empirical and molecular formulas. He went above and beyond making sure she understood each topic. He is accessible, quick to respond and reliable. He is the kind of tutor Wyzant should be proud of representing them!
