I'm a retired college professor and have taught math and computer business courses for over 40 years. I enjoy helping students learn math and have developed many techniques to assist students learn. I've worked to make the transition to a good math student an easy one. I'm an applied math guy and believe hat hard work and many examples are the only way to learn math.
I live on Long Island and will travel a reasonable distance to help a student in need. I do not believe in quick fixes and am not a miracle worker. Math is a long distance run, not a sprint. Working with students is really rewarding, especially when you see someone become successful. Don't wait until you're drowning to get help, as it puts both people at the worst possible state.

Mr. Lawrence O. did a terrific job. Very detailed and patient. Was able to explain logic material in detail and followed up for understanding.
Lawrence worked with my son on the foundations of pre-Calculus to ensure that he understands all that he needs to know before entering engineering school in the fall.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
All sessions are geared to the individual and are not rushed. Problem solving is developed, as are techniques for memorization solution approaches.
I've taught all levels of math from basic math to Calc One. I've worked at a community college for over 35 years and worked with all types of students. My background includes test prep, monitoring and individual counseling for teens to adults returning to school.
I have taught Logic and Set Theory for over 35 years at the college level. This includes truth tables, equivalent statements, converting English statements to logical equivalents and vice versa, Venn diagrams using 2, 3 & 4 variables, Venn diagrams for applications and binary logic. This includes tests, test questions, marking exams and evaluation of student progress. I addition, I've tutored students within the Math Lab at Nassau Community College for over 20 years.
