Hello! My name is Catherine, but I go by the name Katie. I am a certified Elementary and Special Education teacher, and my minor was language arts. I successfully completed my Bachelors and Masters with high honors. I am married with four amazing children; I absolutely love being a mom because children are so full of life and imagination; they have just as much potential of teaching us something, as we do them. Children have such an innocent way of looking at the world, and do not have the clutter in their minds as we adults do. I have a passion for working with children, especially children who struggle with physical, emotional and social challenges. It is my firm belief that everyone and anyone is capable of learning, especially if they are enjoying what they are learning, or at least how they are learning it. It is in the motivation that makes a person absorb the knowledge they are being taught because it comes from a desire to learn. However, it is the teacher's responsibility to instill that motivation. Teachers are indeed a powerful part of any child's learning experience.
I have a firm belief in God, and that each of us are special. He has given each of us gifts in life to use; life provides time to seek our gifts and use them to the best of our ability. I have been so blessed to be able to stay at home with each of my children, but as they are growing older I am feeling the desire to get back out and teach other children. I have wanted to be a teacher ever since I was a little girl, and then in high school, I gravitated towards the Special Education classrooms and spent many hours with the students there. I was a special education teacher for two years before I moved back to this area eight years ago and started to have children. After that, I substitute taught I a variety of classrooms, until I had my third child four years ago. Since him, I stayed full time at home. I feel very confident in my abilities to teach children because not only do I have compassion for them, but I have a drive to fulfill my God given gift. I have a passion to learn, therefore, I am always researching and discovering new knowledge and ways of teaching. I am very attracted to Montessori methods of teaching. I do not believe that one child is like another. We all have different likes, dislikes, and we do not all learn the same way. I am always researching new methods of learning and teaching.
I also love to run, do yoga, sew, read and dance. I currently take dance classes at a friends dance studio, as well as teach a few too. I believe in eating well, and living well. Hello!
