State University of New York, Brockport (Psychology)
My name is Erica and I'm a college graduate, looking to hone my teaching skills. I'm serious about tutoring and, in fact, will be matriculating into an applied linguistics program next spring that focuses on teaching ESL. My undergraduate degree was completed at SUNY Brockport with a Bachelor's in psychology and a minor in anthropology. I'm very sensitive to cultural differences, and learning about my students' backgrounds is my favorite part of the job!
I can help with a variety of things related to the English language, including grammar, vocabulary, exam prep, and English conversation. We can chat casually or use structured lessons based upon your needs. I actually enjoy reading and improving essays! Bring your documents to me, and I will show you how to strengthen them. I like to make my students feel comfortable by creating a casual atmosphere, and I will never judge mistakes--they are absolutely crucial to learning.
As my undergrad major was psychology, I am also open to helping students in college or high school with their psych courses. I am familiar with AP exams and took quite a few in high school, including AP Psychology and English Composition.
I received my certification in TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) from the International TEFL Academy of Chicago in May 2014.
In addition, I worked as a volunteer tutor for LVOY (Literacy Volunteers of Ontario-Yates Counties) in New York State for over a year, which was very fun and rewarding.
Tutoring means as much to me as it does to you. I'm a young professional looking for experience, so please feel free to contact me anytime for proofreading, editing, TOEFL test prep, and English conversation practice. I will try my best to accommodate each student's needs.
Thank you! Hello, everyone!

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
