I've worked with special education, gifted, and ESL students. I've taught test prep, social studies/literacy, preschool and 3rd grade as a long-term substitute teacher. I've also tutored college students as well as a student that was suspended from school. I take playback theater classes and often teach improvisational acting skills to my students. I've been in 7 films and even a Blondie music video. I am also a writer, and I've written poems, short stories, digital stories, commercials, monologues, and scripts.
I make learning fun and interesting. I believe children sometimes need someone to motivate them to learn by bringing out their talents and incorporating them into creative lessons. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have a Master's Degree in Special Education. I am certified to teach students with disabilities grades 1-6. I've tutored students with ADD, and mental retardation. I've taught students with other disabilities as a Substitute Teacher.
I tutored a middle school child who was dyslexic. I helped him with phonics, writing, and grammar. After only a few months, he improved by 1 grade level. I am certified in Special Education grades 1-6.
I am certified in Pr-K through 6th grade Elementary and Special Education 1-6. I have a masters degree plus 36 credits. I've worked in elementary schools in the Hudson Valley and in New York City. Sometimes, I teach in bilingual (Spanish) classrooms. I've worked in regular, self-contained, resource, and inclusion type classrooms as well.
I've taught from a reading series that is part of the Reading First initiative. I've also used Harcourt and McMillan programs and been a substitute teacher a few times in a Reading Recovery program.
I am certified in Special Education for grades 1-6. I've tutored children with special needs in Reading. I've worked with various students who have learning disabilities.
I was a tutor for two college students at one point. I helped students with learning disabilities study for tests, write essays, and research topics. I prepared students for state exams by having them review questions, take notes, and underline important information. I gave practice spelling quizzes to classes. During my student teaching, I had students write their own questions to study from the textbook.
I have been studying Playback Theater for the past 4 years. I study and attend classes every weekend. I learn games, techniques, and how to interact with other actors on stage.
I majored in Mass Communications with a concentration in T.V. Production in college. I've had three internships. One was for PBS, the other NBC Cable, and I interned for an independent film. I was part of the television club in college.
