I'm a graduate from an Ivy League college with a degree in mechanical engineering with a minor in electrical engineering. Even though, aside from when I worked at a teaching assistant while getting my masters in mechanical engineering, I don't have teaching background, I have always enjoyed tutoring because I enjoy learning and believe that it's an important skill for life. I primarily tutor high school math and science (physics and chemistry), but I have also tutored college level math (calculus, statistics), mechanical engineering (thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, and heat transfer) and computer science.
The thing that makes a little different from most tutors is that I only do this on the side. Despite over ten years of experience tutoring, I've always kept tutoring as a part-time thing with a limited number of students. I prefer it this way so I can get to know my pupils better. In addition, this arrangement means that I usually have enough free time to be flexible in case the student needs an extra session for a test or midterms, or has to reschedule because of conflicts.
My hourly rate is a little on the high side but depending on the proximity of location and time of day, the rate can be adjusted down. Brian is a great tutor. I feel as if I learned more from him than I did in an entire semester at school. He is very patient and non-judgmental. Based on performance, Brian gets 5 stars easily. My only complaint is the price. I spent a little over 4 hours with Brian, which totaled to about $300. Other than that, everything was great.
Very helpful! Very knowledgeable!
Would use again!
He knows calculus
Very well and was able to explain it good it helped me a lot!
Very good tutor!
Great tutor who was very patient and knew the subject very well. I used him for two subjects and was very knowledgeable.
Brian is everything you would want in a tutor... prompt, reliable, accommodating, inspiring and most of all he is able to make the student understand the information. We are very pleased with Brian and the results that my son has achieved so far.
I would just like to start off by saying Brian is an extremely intelligent person who is completely engaged with his students. Before I looked for help in Pre-Calc I was failing the course. I was on the verge of failing my class which would have prevented me from graduating. I give Brian all the credit in the world for helping me with my Pre-Calc class. He taught me the correct and easy way to solve the problems and even helped me figure out how to generate answers using my calculator. I HIGHLY recommend Brian as a tutor because he is very bright and easy to work with. His knowledge of math is incredible and he will be able to help almost anybody out. Brian is a can't miss tutor and overall great guy!
Brian has been excellent in breaking down topics that I find difficult so that I can think through them and remember how to approach them. It was also very easy to work with him in setting up times that work for us.
Michael really liked Brian and felt really good about the session. We have already scheduled another appointment. I would definitely recommend Brian.
Although I did not meet Brian, my son, who is being tutored in AP Calculus, said that Brian was very helpful and patient. We will use him again.
Brian C. was very helpful. He was able to engage a student who was not happy doing math, let alone having a tutor.
Brian is a wonderful tutor who has the patient and understanding of a saint. He really helped my son bring up his grade.
Thank you Brian!
Feeling extremely overwhelmed this semester, to have to get through precalculus seemed impossible. Brian, through patience and clarity, was able to shed some much needed light on many necessary to understand concepts. Thanks to him I have earned the four credits for the course and am one step closer to my bachelor's degree.
Thank you Brian!!
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have minored in electrical engineering while getting my degree in mechanical engineering. I also worked for three years as a research assistant doing signal and data analysis for a professor of electrical engineering.
I can help with second-year analog circuits and digital logic, along with their related lab classes. I can also help with discrete math and computer architecture classes.
I have basic level exerience with EAGLE CAD circuit board layout software.
I have a Bachelor of Science in mechanical engineering with a concentration in vehicle engineering and minor in electrical engineering from Cornell University and a Master of Science in mechanical engineering with a concentration in thermofluids from Stony Brook University.
On the academic side I have tutored college students in calculus, statics, physics, chemistry, thermodynamics and computer science (Java and Matlab). When I was at Stony Brook, I was a teaching assistant for a system dynamics class and for senior lab where I worked with students on their wind tunnel experiments.
On the professional side, I'm familiar with many computer-aided design programs, but I am most proficient with ProEngineer Wildfire/Creo. For finite element analysis, I am experienced with ANSYS and ProMechanica. I also have a lot of experience with Matlab for data analysis.
