I have an M.Ed, and have taught ESL and language arts for the past 15 years in Queens and Brooklyn. I have written and implemented units related to books as low as Sarah, Plain and Tall and as difficult as Of Mice and Men. My students have brainstormed, written first drafts, self-edited, peer edited, and published original stories, nonfiction informative books, and persuasive essays. I have incorporated poetry and music into my classroom and had students share information about their native countries. I have taught writing, reading, listening, speaking, and grammar skills to my students. During the past few years, I have accommodated both advanced and beginning students within individual lessons so that all students have been able to get access to the same material even if they do not complete the same final product. I believe that I can be an asset to your child as a tutor.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
