About Ronnie

I am NYS Mathematics (7-12), Business Education (1-12) and Social Studies (7-12) certified. I have taught these subjects at the middle school, high school and business college levels. I tutor students in a variety of subjects including their preparation for the TACHS, ASVAB and TASC exams. After completing their TESOL Certificate program in 2014, I was an Adjunct Instructor at Westchester Community College.

My teaching takes into consideration the various abilities of students and each one’s need to experience success within the classroom. My strongest suit is having patience and the ability of making students, irrespective of their ability, comfortable with the subject. I am into strategy. Once a student knows how to conquer a problem, he/she will be able to apply the knowledge to such problems in the future.

I also developed and administered a seventh grade tutoring program for the March New York State Mathematics Exam. The results of this exam showed that where a two year history of the students’ math results were available, 25% moved up from being 2's to 3's. Prior to teaching, my career was in Mathematics and Finance.

My educational background includes an MSEd. in secondary education from the University of Pennsylvania (program ranked #5 in the country) and an MBA in Finance from Adelphi University.

Whether you are looking for enrichment or remedial assistance for your child, I am the right tutor for you!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Algebra 1

I have had success bringing students to higher levels in their math skills. I accomplish this by showing them that mastering the subject is doable, even if it takes time. I also bring a sense of humor to teaching that lightens the atmosphere and allows them to relax as we forge ahead.

My emphasis is strategy. Once your student is knowledgeable of a certain skill, he/she will be able to apply it when a similar problem arises. I know I can make your student feel comfortable in class.

American History

I have had success bringing students to a higher level in their understanding of American History. My emphasis is looking beyond the facts to see how the story of our country hangs together. Since my TASC (GED) students tend to be adults who are committed to succeeding quickly, I offer them a reduced rate (not posted here) for a two hour minimum. The goal is to take the exam while most of the preparation is still in your short term memory.
