About Sean

As a tutor and a teacher, I believe that the definition of academic success is unique to every student. For some, it can mean passing a big exam with flying colors. For others, it can mean learning the skills necessary to organize an essay, or to effectively manage homework time. As a Summa Cum Laude graduate of SUNY Fredonia with a degree in Social Studies Education, I understand the importance of working one on one with students, and creating lessons that engage students while helping them achieve their own form of academic success. Currently, I work with students in school one on one and in small groups every day to help them achieve their own personal success. It is truly one of the most fulfilling jobs I have ever had!

I specialize in tutoring English, Proofreading, Vocabulary skill-building, and American History. As a history teacher, one of the most important parts of my job is to teach students to express themselves through writing. I believe that when students have the skills to use their language effectively, they can approach many other subject areas with less difficulty.

Many students dislike history, and I always aim to make it both fun and informative. In addition to learning the material required for their classes, I always want my students to walk away from my lessons having strengthened their critical thinking skills, research skills, and analysis skills. These are not only the skills of an excellent historian, but a great student as well!

I look forward to hearing from you and helping you achieve your own personal success!

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Social Studies

In 2014 I graduated Summa Cum Laude with a Bachelor's Degree in Social Studies Adolescent Education from SUNY Fredonia. I am currently employed by the Stanley G. Falk school in Buffalo, NY as a teacher's assistant. My daily duties include teaching social studies, geography, map skills, as well as grammar, vocabulary, and reading to 6th and 7th grade students in a special education classroom.

Study Skills

I am a teacher's assistant at school, where I work with students one-on one and in groups each day to improve study skills to master classroom content. These skills include but are not limited to: creating flash cards for independent study, creating outlines from textbooks, using textbooks effectively, strategies, and many more. Every student learns differently, and while there are some methods that work for a wide variety of students, I firmly believe that students need to have exposure to a number of strategies in order to find the one that helps them best achieve success!
