I have had the opportunity to teach children and adults throughout my career. I have learned to tailor my teaching skills to the students and their abilities and goals. I have had a very good success rate teaching students who took the NYS Regents Exams and NYS Proficiency Exams in Spanish. I enjoy seeing their progress and enthusiasm as they learn the language and begin to form an appreciation for the Spanish speaking culture.
I have had several years experience teaching people whose first language is not English. This is also very rewarding. I have found that those students have a sincere desire to learn the language with the hopes of improving the quality of life and becoming employable in the USA.
Teaching in general is very rewarding to me and I have enjoyed every minute of it! My son needed Spanish help quickly as his normal tutor had a family emergency and finals were approaching in less than a week. Liz came to our rescue quickly and with no fuss or bother! She responded immediately to my email and set up a time and place.
My son was taking Spanish 3 and needed help with essay writing in addition to his regular work. Liz did NOT write his essays but did provide valuable assistance, explaining what teachers are looking for and steering him in the right direction. My son did well on his final and we credit Liz's hard work and patience!
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
