Criminal Justice

I graduated summa cum laude from Catholic University, having studied History and Philosophy with a research concentration in law and justice in early modern Europe. From there, I pursued a Master’s degree in European history on full scholarship at Binghamton University. Since then, I have taught high-school social studies for five years, teaching such subjects as Government/Economics, U. S. History, Current Events, and both Ancient and Modern Global History. My teaching includes extensive instruction on the development of law codes, both ancient and present. Particular emphasis is place on the emergence of American jurisprudence within the wider foundation of natural law theory and natural rights theory, both products of the European Enlightenment.

I have taught (and tutored) the past four years as a high school social studies teacher. My experience with Honors, college prep, and Advanced Placement courses makes me a strong candidate to support students' college admissions process. Also, I taught college-level history courses for two years while attaining my Master's degree, which granted me valuable insight on what professors and admissions counselors are looking for in 21st-century college students. Finally, I worked in College Admissions for 4 years in college myself, learning the "ins and outs" of the admissions process. Reliable, caring, and professional instructor

My daughter has been happily working regularly with Ryan for well over one year, covering topics in writing and ancient history. As a homeschooling family, we rely heavily on reliable and passionate instructors like Ryan to model the type of enthusiasm for learning that he clearly possesses. Despite the challenges of our time zone changes and curriculum adjustments, Ryan continues to stay flexible, patient, and dependable. His teaching style combines a perfect balance of discussion-based learning and written/oral activities to help assess mastery of each topic. My (teenage) daughter looks forward to continuing her lessons with Ryan, which says a lot about Ryan. I truly respect him for the gift he gives to each of his students, not only as a professional instructor but also as a mentor to young adults.

Editing goes beyond 5 stars!

Ryan helped me edit my entry papers for graduate school (supplemental essays and personal statement) and I was more than pleased with his work. He is efficient and his comments on my google doc were perfectly executed and user friendly. I was actually blown away! I have tried using other people on Wyzant but none of them compared to Ryan. I will be sticking with him for as long as he is available! He responds quickly and really helped boost my confidence! I think my chances of getting in to graduate school are much higher thanks to his help in editing and making my papers sound more "grown up". Trust me, you will not be disappointed.
