I am a New York State certified teacher in general science grades 7 to 12, chemistry and physics. I have been teaching since 2006 although I have tutored for much longer than that. As a substitute teacher, I have experience with all subjects and have a knack for integrating them to each other and student interests - important for learning.
I believe education is for use in life. I would prefer not to help students cram for tests but to help them learn to use their information in their lives. This makes it easier to study! I do teach study skills and test-taking strategies, however. Every student should do their best on a test, not be nervous or lose unnecessary credit.
I am trained in Study Skills, so I can help you become an independent learner. You should not need someone to tell you what to do.
I like to find out what a student's strengths and weaknesses are before planning a tutoring program. Everyone is different. The end result should be a student who is confident he or she can learn what is needed without further help. Charles clarified some conceptual questions I had and gave me pointers about what I need in my answers. He was easy to work with.
My son struggled for months with Chemistry. Charles was able to clarify many of the foundations through instruction and visual technique. In just the first session my child was more confident and able to complete the homework. I highly recommend him and will be using him again!
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
Algebra I requires interpretation of language and translation into mathematical representation as well as solutions. This subject is useful in many areas of life.
Chemical engineering applies chemical knowledge to production methods. This subject requires integrating science, math, and process knowledge. How to find appropriate data resources is vital. Sorting through information to identify relevant data is key.
I can assist you to coordinate your various skills toward problem solving tasks.
I studied chemistry and chemical engineering at Clarkson University and have worked professionally in Chemistry and teaching since graduation.
I am a New York State certified Chemistry teacher with a Chemistry degree as well. I have been teaching and tutoring Chemistry for over 20 years.
I did work as a professional chemist before becoming certified as a teacher. I worked in chemical analysis, which I love. I am competent in both organic and inorganic chemistry and am very familiar with Regents exams.
I have a Physics Education Master degree. I can use algebra, trigonometry and geometry to solve complicated real-world problems.
Organic Chemistry is a wide subject. Knowledge of chemistry and biology are helpful but the subject has its own rules. I can help you organize your knowledge for application to various types of problems. This subject is vital for nutrition, medicine, and environmental sciences, and it is useful in a number of biology disciplines, too.
I am a trained analytical chemist with experience in organic chemistry and molecular biology. I can apply chemical principles to biological systems. I studied at Clarkson University and further trained at Ecology & Environment in Lancaster.
Physics is a fun subject. It has to do with the predicting of any natural occurrences. It embraces all of the universe, including the very big and the very small. Knowledge of this subject will establish a foundation for understanding all other sciences.
After years of grading Regents exams, I know the pitfalls of test taking that students should avoid.
I am New York State certified in Chemistry and Physics. I am qualified to teach any Regents course. I am experienced in teaching all Regents science and math classes.
Students can have a hard time studying. There are really only a few reasons for this. I can identify what your trouble is and handle it. A technology of study exists but is not taught in schools. This leaves students not knowing how and feeling stupid. You are not stupid. You just need to be shown how.
I am Applied Scholastics trained in identifying and handling reasons for study problems. I can teach you to identify and handle your own study problems, too. The goal is to be a life-long independent learner.
