I have work experience teaching biology on a college level, as well as, teaching for an after school program for elementary, middle and high school students. I also have informal experience educating kids ages 4 and up about science and nature. My focus in college was on ecology but I have also covered general biology, cell biology, genetics, field biology, and animal behavior in my teaching.
I believe that being an educator is more than simply knowing the material you are teaching. Being an educator means being able to find a way to help each and every student master the material. It means if the explanation you are using is not working, finding a different way to explain it. And, most importantly, it means helping your students learn how to learn; helping them find the answers on their own and giving them the confidence to try. My goal is to make science fun and accessible for every student and to hopefully instill in them a love of science and nature that will stay with them for their entire life.
