GMAT,

GMAT

During the past several years, I have successfully helped many students raise scores substantially on "standardized" tests, including the GMAT. In addition to over 30 years of college teaching (math, physics, and computer science) and my writing experience as an author and editor, I was also trained and certified by both leading "test-prep" companies (TPR and Kaplan) to teach and tutor their strategies and techniques for improving scores on so-called "standardized" tests. My profile is available on the WyzAnt website (or you can click the "profile" link below), but feel free to contact me if you require further details or have any questions.
GRE,

GRE

During the past several years, I have successfully helped many students raise scores substantially on all sections of the GRE exam. In addition to over 30 years of college teaching (math, physics, and computer science) and my writing experience as an author and editor, I was also trained and certified by both leading "test-prep" companies (TPR and Kaplan) to teach and tutor their strategies and techniques for improving scores on so-called "standardized" tests (including PSAT/SAT, ACT, GRE, LSAT, MCAT, etc., as well as Regents, AP, GED, SSAT, ASVAB, NYSTCE, and Civil Service exams.) Upon request, I can supply several references from satisfied students.
Microsoft Excel,

Microsoft Excel

I teach computer science (and also math and physics) as an Adjunct Professor at several colleges, and have been tutoring, for many years, in math, science, writing, and other academic subjects (as well as "test-prep" for SAT, GRE, MCAT, etc.) My industry career was mostly in computer software development and systems programming (and the management thereof), at several Long Island companies, including Grumman Aerospace, Robotic Vision, American Science, and Brookhaven National Laboratory. I have extensive experience in using many different kinds of spreadsheets, with elaborate formulae for complex computations (scientific, financial, statistical, etc.), "what-if" scenarios, data lookups and database applications, etc. including shared (cloud-based) spreadsheets with multiple editors and users. Mastery of spreadsheet usage is an essential part of several of the college courses that I teach.
Public Speaking

Public Speaking

In addition to my academic and industry background in mathematics and science, I am also a professional writer (with thousands of pages published) and a journal-editor/rewrite-specialist. I am also a radio broadcaster, hosting two weekly talk shows, for over ten years on local radio stations. For over 15 years, I have worked on numerous political campaigns, coaching candidates, writing and making speeches, and running twice myself as a candidate for elective office. My communications skills have enabled me to help many students improve in both reading comprehension and creative writing, as well as proofing and rewrite of research papers, articles for publications, etc. (Likewise, I've gained much insight from software development work I have done in translating computer programming languages.)

C,

C

C is one of several languages in which I regularly program, and which I also teach. At Brookhaven Lab, I was software architect for the real-time process control system of a major experimental machine, and wrote many critical portions of the final code. At Grumman, Robotic Vision, American Science, and elsewhere, I developed several large software programs and projects in C and C++ (and also managed the development of many more). As an Adjunct Professor at several local colleges, during the past 30 years, I've taught many programming courses in C/C++ or Java, as well as Perl, Javascript, and other related languages. I also teach computer courses for programming in several other languages (VB, Fortran, SQL, etc. as well as various assemblers), and have taught undergrad and post-graduate courses in programming language theory, computer architecture, software engineering, etc.

I briefly served as an "observer member" on the X3J16 committee that standardized C++, but spent more time working with X3J11 in the development of ANSI C. I'm actually listed as a co-author, in the original C standard. (I'm also listed as a co-author of one POSIX standard revision, and three of the Fortran standard.

SSAT

During the past several years, I have successfully helped many students raise scores substantially on the ACT, SAT/PSAT, SSAT, and similar tests (GRE, MCAT, LSAT, etc. as well as GED and ASVAB). References available upon request.

TEAS

In addition to decades of teaching and tutoring in academic subject areas, I have also been trained and certified by both of the two major test-prep companies (TPR and Kaplan), and have successfully tutored medical and nursing students to raise their scores substantially, on standardized exams such as MCAT (verbal and science sections), OAT, DAS, and TEAS.

Algebra 2 and AP Chemistry

Bruce-Alan M has been tutoring my 10th grade daughter in AP chemistry and Algebra 2 and I've been extremely satisfied with the work that he's doing with her. (In fact, I'm so pleased with his tutoring that I've requested that he tutor my other daughter in AP chemistry). Besides the fact that he's extremely knowledgeable, professional, and affable, I especially like his teaching style. I like how he guides my daughter by asking questions, prodding her and making her work towards getting the right answers. I think that's a great way to *teach* pupils *how to think*--which is ultimately what a good teacher does.

Great with MATLAB!

He is a very helpful tutor, especially in regards to MATLAB. I am new to programming so he understands what I am experiencing and is very patient when teaching me. If I don't comprehend well what he is teaching, he is able to describe it differently so that I do understand better. I've had two sessions so far and plan to have more.

Great tutor

Prof. BAM helped me prepare for my college level Algebra 1 final. He helped me review factoring, trinomials, difference of two squares, exponents and equations and was very patient and thorough. He took the time to explain the material over for me to better understand and gave me tips and tricks I could use to perform better in my final. I feel a lot more confident after our sessions. Highly recommended!

Great Tutor

SAT preparation can be a very stressful and frustrating time in your child's life. Especially now with the new format, and all the pressure the schools are putting on our kids to perform. Professor "BAM" immediately put my daughter at ease with his knowledge of the SAT test taking strategies and methods. I would highly recommend this tutor to anyone that is serious about helping their child obtain the SAT score that facilitates their success!
