Wells College (Psychology)
the sage colleges (Master's)
I love showing students that learning can be fun and that with a few techniques, studying can be made more simple and easy for them. I recently graduated undergraduate at Wells College as a Psychology Major with minors in Childhood Education, Adolescent Education, and Spanish. I am also working towards my Master's degree in Professional School Counseling at Sage Colleges. While in high school I mentored 5th graders, tutored 10th, 11th, and 12th graders, and I completed 4 years in the Reality Check Youth advocate, 3 years in Key Club community service Chapter, as well as babysat for 2 younger boys for two years (ages 4-8). Currently, I work with learning disabled students ages 17-27 years old who are seeking employment, help with college course work, and help with independent living skills. The true key to learning and accomplishment is knowing how to keep the student engaged and motivated throughout the learning process. Throughout my experiences; I do believe that I have acquired the capabilities in order to create the best learning environment possible! In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
Within the past six years I have completed copious amounts of tutoring and study skills development with students grades seven-college freshman. I have received a certificate for tutoring various students 300 hours total in a six month period during my junior year of high school. I have also taught and worked in an elementary school for the past three and a half years (grades Pre-K through 8th grade) as well as worked as a writing resource peer leader for college freshman within the past year. In addition, I have completed various internships and field placements as a school counselor, Spanish teacher for grades 8-12, and 4th grade IEP/504 teacher.
