I have two Associate Degrees and a Baccalaureate Degree in Criminal Justice. I graduated with a 4.0 from all three programs. During my last semester in college, I became a peer tutor for Student Support Services and helped many Associate level students graduate. I am preparing for the GRE and hope to begin a Master's in Education. I wish to teach full-time in the classroom; you can be certain that I am dedicated to teaching.

I have experience teaching students who speak English as a second language. Before that, I taught a children's art class so I have experience teaching every age. I have also helped many students raise their grades to As and Bs. Organization is key to success and I can help your student get organized.

I believe in comprehensive teaching. Students learn best when they are comfortable, happy, well-fed, and have a full night's sleep. I will work with your student's individual needs and learning style to ensure optimal education. I will work to build a rapport and combine humor into our lessons. Enthusiasm is paramount to teaching, and I have a passion for it. Your student will not be bored. We will work together towards success, and enjoy the journey.

Students will be surprised to learn that I work through empowerment. You are the boss. I am here to teach you what it is you want/need to learn. I work with you to reach your goals. It's my job to make sure you get what you want out of your education.

Although English and writing are my specialties, I also tutor a variety of subjects, including math.

I can help you improve your writing through stylistic techniques, improving your sentence structure, and perfecting your grammar. Literature can be challenging but is relevant and important to students in so many ways. In addition to understanding what is read, it is important for the student to find connections between him/herself and the literature. The student who sees connections is the student who understands and can meet any test with confidence. We will work at your student's pace and shape lessons to his/her needs.

I teach any age from first grade to adult. From teaching English, to SAT prep, to helping college students write in APA format, I love to teach. We can reach any goal.

PLEASE NOTE: I am not a disciplinarian. If you can not control your child, I will not be able to. I will gladly work with anyone who is willing to work. I bring enthusiasm into my teaching. I LOVE being able to help students reach their goals. But if your child is lazy or unmotivated, I will not be an effective tutor for them. Please explain to your child that having a private tutor is a privilege. I will help in whatever way I can. I won't be disrespected and will stop lessons immediately if your child treats me poorly. There are plenty of disciplinarian tutors out there. They are not fun to work with. My students enjoy our time together and reaching attainable goals.

As a public service, if you know anyone who has consumed a tide pod, I will give that person heavily discounted lessons on Self Reliance and the importance of rising above peer pressure. This may be a trend among teenagers, but it is caused by equating attention on social media with social acceptance.

CANCELLATION POLICY: My time is valuable. I take appointments very seriously. I require a 12 hour notice of cancellation before your appointment. If you cancel before 12 hours until your appointment, there will be no fee. If you cancel 2 to 12 hours before your appointment, you will be charged for half of the price of your appointment. If you cancel 2 hours or fewer before your appointment, or do not show up for your appointment, you will be charged for the full price of your appointment. (I will wait 15 minutes into your appointment for you to arrive before moving on).

I have tutored elementary math before, especially for students who struggled to understand the basics of math in order to build a foundation for high school and college level mathematics. Very patient and encouraging

Charlaina was very direct with her feedback and it was easy to follow. I found talking things out with her really helped me solidify what I was having issues with. I'm glad I found her!

7th grade common core math

My daughter has been out of school sick for 3 months. Since we are traveling back and forth every weekend I looked for a tutor for the weekend. I was very pleased with her professionalism and ability to adapt quickly with very vague work instructions from my child's math teacher. She was on time and was able to work with my daughter for 2 hours during this time she was able to help her get over 1/2 of her homework done. When I say 1/2 we are talking about 3 months worth of homework with no previous instruction on. I was very pleased and would recommend her to anyone. My daughter has an IEP for dyslexia, adjustment disorder, and anxiety.

Amazingly knowledgable and gifted tutor

Charlaine is a bright, very bright person; she understands her student's wants and needs quickly, sets a learning goal and helps the student to achieve it. She is a very kind and enthusiastic tutor and works well with all ages. She works with my 18-year-old son, my 13-year-old and my 9-year-old. This is truly amazing because my 9-year-old daughter is very shy and difficult to engage. However, she loves Charlaine and is always looking forward to working with her. She helps my older kids to get stuff done, and they love working with her. I'm so glad that we found her. -Rita
