My greatest joy is seeing the flicker of understanding touch a child's eyes. When I hear a child make a connection to what I'm teaching, I know I'm doing something right. I entered the education field with a deep desire to make a difference. During the time I taught fourth and fifth grade I gained the most satisfaction when my students wanted to come to class. Whenever there came a break for holidays my students would moan. Sometimes I felt as not many of them had anyone who really listened to what they were thinking. I sincerely believe that when one loves what they do it shows.
I went back to school after raising my family and with a 4.0 average and honors I became certified in elementary education. Soon after I completed my masters in literacy. (also with a 4.0 average) I was recruited to become a fourth grade teacher before I finished school.
The last four years I have been working in a Pre-K to grade 2 school where Common Core is the curriculum. Working in all the grades I have established myself as solid, proficient teacher.
During my time as a fourth and fifth grade teacher, my students ranked in the top 5% in all state tests. They also won the yearly spelling bees. I worked at this time as a morning and lunchtime tutor for students needing extra help before testing. After school hours I conducted an Achieve program that integrated art, music and sports.
I believe my own love of reading helps to motivate my students. I aim to ignite their interest in many subjects in order to encourage them to look for more, seek answers, develop questions. I paste inspirational quotes all over the classroom to relay ideas of people they admire.

Donna provided an assessment to gauge strengths and areas of difficult for my pre K son. She determined his ability to identify/name alphabet, numbers, writing, prepositions and even cutting. She was able to engage in non academic conversations with my child but also redirected him to task to ensure work was done. My son felt comfortable with her teaching style and we will continue to work with Donna.
As an elementary school teacher on Long Island I am well versed in Common Core as it is now the accepted curriculum. Through professional development courses and in service hours I have developed and implemented strategies that reflect Common Core standards. My students have shown that they can accept and move forward with the rigor of the new standards.

I have been teaching over 10 years in elementary education. My students have fared very well on state assessments in both math and ELA. Keeping abreast of the Common Core curriculum has been very beneficial to the integrity and confidence of my students.
The students in my fourth and fifth grade classes were composed of many ESL children whose grasp of language was limited. I differentiated both their work load and pace to assist in their learning. I selected literature for them with great care. It was important that phonetic understanding be at the forefront for them to then move on to reading comprehension and speech.
I have 10 years teaching experience with children in elementary grades. My students have consistently been recognized for their meritorious accomplishments. Instilling a love of reading gives a child entry to worlds of imagination and wonder.
As a certified 1-6 elementary and B-6 literacy teacher, I have developed sets of study skills for my students with which to make them successful. I do my utmost to insure that my students have a thorough understanding of concepts and applications. When assessing their work if I find any lack of understanding I revise and adapt my methods.
