About Jeffrey

I have been working as a teacher and high school guidance counselor in New York City, and now White Plains, NY, for a combined nine years. As a high school guidance counselor in diverse settings, I have become well versed in the intricacies of the college admissions and application process. I would consider myself extremely knowledgeable in the following areas that make up this process: college research and best fit, financial aid and scholarships, recommendation letters, extracurricular activities, essay writing, SAT and ACT.

As a teacher for three years in the East Harlem neighborhood of New York City, I taught a class called College Bound which I taught exclusively to ninth graders. The class curriculum focused on college awareness, career exploration, financial aid, graduation requirements, and essay writing. The class was taught as building block for an early understanding of the college admissions and application process and gave those students a skill set that many others their age did not possess.

I truly love what I do. I love being able to help my students and their families navigate the college admissions and application process, a process that can be daunting and convoluted and confusing on so many levels - especially for a family that has never gone through the process before. I find that I am able to effectively communicate with my students and their families by drawing from my own experiences, using my ears more than my mouth, and above all, always maintaining a keen sense of humor.

Please feel free to contact me to set up a time to chat!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
