Hello! I'm Luke. I have a dual degree from SUNY New Paltz in both Mathematics and Adolescent Mathematics Education. However, the most important thing about me as a tutor is that I am very effective at communicating with students in a laid back, yet productive way. The most common question asked by math students is, "Ugh! Why am I learning this?" And I frequently get students to work with me by answering that question in a way deeper than "You won't have a calculator in your pocket" because nowadays we all do. By providing context and logic for the math that the student is doing and by oozing enthusiasm for mathematics, I can reach the people who think they just aren't "math people."
I have tutored every level of math from 6th grade all the way to Calculus 2 for the past six years. I have tutored one-on-one in secondary schools, colleges, and homes, as well as during class with some students. I know how classroom learning goes as I've taught multiple 7th grade math classes and high school math classes including Algebra 1, Geometry, and some electives. While I primarily focus on math, I have experience tutoring other subjects such as English, Chemistry, and Physics.
While I would love to show you how to enjoy math, by working with me you at least won't dread it! I'm very flexible and easy to contact by various methods. I respond quickly and can answer whatever questions you have about me or scheduling.
