Paul Smith's College (Natural Resource Management and Policy)
I started my background in education during my time obtaining my Bachelor's degree. I tutored biology and dendrology as an employee of the school, but also frequently assisted fellow students understanding programs such as powerpoint and excel during my personal time. I taught supplementary instruction classes for biology which was a drop in program where I retaught the lessons for the week during a 1 hour period.
After college I began working as an environmental educator in Georgia for 3 years teaching ecology in an outdoor setting to 5th graders with some students up to and beyond the high school level. My first 2 years were spent inland at the Rock Eagle 4H camp focusing on piedmont ecology and the last year was spent at another 4H camp which focuses on coastal ecology. Most recently I have been teaching environmental education in Stamford, CT at the Stamford Museum and Nature Center. Here I have been teaching primarily 2nd graders more often in a classroom setting.
My strengths are in biology, ecology, botany with some zoology. I am also interested in astronomy and cosmology and am currently brushing up on physics and chemistry. I also have a degree in graphic design and photography. As a side note, due to the nature of my current profession I am also a very skilled public speaker and can offer advice on this matter as well.
My passion is for the natural sciences and have been teaching them for the last 4 years. Though I am currently teaching primarily at the elementary level, I was an exception student while getting my Bachelor's degree graduating with a 3.82 gpa. I am currently seeking a graduate degree in adult education to start teaching at the college level. As a result I have begun a personal advancement of the subject matter I wish to teach including some other sciences such as physics and chemistry.
I have been doing graphic design since high school and have even done a few freelance jobs. Though I currently only design for personal reasons and in a small capacity for my job, I have a lot to offer any beginning to intermediate student in both the program itself and the basics of graphic design.
I am a very dynamic and passionate educator. I have a great deal to offer any student seeking knowledge in the fields I have mentioned not only due to my wealth of knowledge but also in my experiences in a variety of different settings. If you think I might be the right tutor for you I would love for you to contact me so we can discuss how you can get the most out of my experience. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I tutored and provided supplemental instruction for biology, including comprehensive pre-test date preparation, during my 2 1/2 years at Paul Smith's College. For 4 years I lead environmental education classes in ecology that touched upon biological concepts.
I spent 4 years teaching ecology during environmental education classes in both inland and coastal environments.
