About Kailie

I have been tutoring since I was 17 years old. I started out as a tutor and a note taker for disabled students at a SUNY community college.

The subjects I covered there were English, American History, and Psychology. When I was 18 I worked for a semester in the Boston public schools system in an elementary math after school program. I taught in small groups or one-on-one to students needing or just wanting some extra help in math.

For two years I was a substitute teacher in every grade level from Pre-K to vocational school. I taught in over seventeen school districts in Fulton, Montgomery, and Hamilton counties in New York state.

I truly enjoyed the challenge of experiencing a variety of different classes and grade I also tutored students out of regular school for different reasons, whether that be suspension, illness, pregnancy, etc. I taught them all their subjects in a two hour period each day, usually meeting at the public library. levels.I taught for two semesters at the University at Albany in the Communication department were I served as a Graduate Assistant. I helped teach public speaking, communication theory, and media communication classes. I also served as a substitute professor on an as needed basis.

Privately, I have tutored numerous high school students. Most of the time it is for a specific test preparation like the SATs or New York state Regent's exams. The most popular Regents I keep getting calls on to help student's pass after they are taking the test for the second, third, or fourth time is the Global History Regents typically taken at the end of 10th grade. I have a perfect record getting students to pass the Regents after tutoring with me. I have also tutored the American History and English Regents.

I love teaching English! (I consider this my best subject and specialty.) Any English skill I am more than willing help with. I have experience with proofreading, essay writing, public speaking, any level English classes, and ESL. American History and test prep are close behind as favorites.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Career Development

I have been hired on multiple occasions to put together resumes for people. I also have coached people through job interviews- what to expect and even mock interviews. Many individuals have told me they got a better job because of my help. I also served as a career adviser in college and enjoy sorting out appropriate classes to take.

Elementary (K-6th)

I taught in Fulton, Montgomery, and Hamilton counties as a substitute teacher in all grades for over 2 years. I have experience in every subject and grad level in elementary school. I taught elementary math in an after school program in Boston Public schools.

Handwriting

I went to private school for middle school and part of high school where we had to use handwriting or cursive writing for everything. I have years of experience practicing all letters of the alphabet. I have hand written 10 page papers. Previously, I have helped adults and children writing in cursive.

Homeschool

I was home schooled myself my junior and senior years of high school. I have experience tutoring outside of school for disabled or suspended students. This would be 2 hours a day at a library and include all subjects. I did this through the Johnstown, NY school district at either the Johnstown Public Library or Knox school. I taught home school for students in 7th to 10th grade. I also administered a program in Fulton County through Social Services that checked on students being home schooled and assessed them.

Phonics

I have taught phonics at the elementary and middle school level. This is also a tool I have used with ESL students. Phonics is a subject that doesn't get as much use in recent years and I find it an important component to the English language.

Public Speaking

My degree is in communication, and public speaking was the backbone of it it. I have helped several Valedictorians write and speak in public. I have also helped teach an undergraduate class in public speaking. I'm one of those rare individuals who enjoys the art of public speaking and is not terrified by it.

Regents

I have been privately tutoring students to pass several New York state Regents exams for years now. I have taught Algebra, Global History, U.S. History, and English with all of my students passing. Some students had taken the exam 3 times before and couldn't pass until my tutoring. I have many saved lessons that I use and fun tutoring games for Regents preparation.

Religion

I have taken several college level religion courses. I have expertise in the 7 main religions in the world. I also am an expert in the Christian religion. I went to a Christian school and have taken Bible class and Bible studies for my entire life.

Social Studies

I have numerous college classes in social studies. I have taught and tutored at the high school level locally. NYS Regent's exams in social studies are a staple of mine and are in great demand.

Study Skills

I have privately tutored for test prep for years. Most tests are SAT or NYS Regent's based and in all my test prep I have many lessons on the study skills behind it and how crucial some simple tips can be.
